EDIT: This is rather long but please bare with it and give feedback
Ok so I have been thinking it through and I want to do a PPV review every month, I am still working out the details of my scoring system so I just going to base this one on the 5* system for now and when I come up with something better I will use that.
There will be 2 marks awarded the first will be the *- rating of the match compared to the rest of the matches on the PPV, and the rating in brackets will be the * - rating compared to an average PPV match (an average PPV match is worth 3*'s)
I will also be judging whether the matches were PPV worthy or belonged on Smackdown!
RVD and Rey Mysterio vs. The Dudley Boyz
This started off as a standard tag team faring but got more interesting after the hot tag. I though RVD and Rey had some good chemistry in the ring and some innovative offense, the way the two worked together reminded me of the Hardy Boyz style. It was a clean flawless match really (unless you count RVD's music playing half-way through, which kind of gave away the result). I think that RVD and Rey winning wasn't the best idea for the finish as this was one of the matches on the PPV that had some build up beforehand, and having RVD and Rey win clean means the push the Dudley’s received was pretty pointless.
PPV worthy: YES
5* RATING - JD = **** PPV = (***)
Dawn Marie vs. Torrie Wilson
Torrie loses her job if Dawn Wins
The match itself wasn't up to the caliber of the women's division on Raw but that can be expected, with little build up, Kurt Angle's stipulation was a welcome addition that brought up the crowd's interest. Nice TnA for the men. Not much else really to say.
PPV worthy: NO
5* RATING - JD = 1/2* PPV = (NO STARS)
Scotty Too Hotty vs. Mordecai
I think Mordecai should have been given some promo time before the match so that he could get some heat but I liked his entrance and general look. As a match it was pretty futile, would have like to have seen some more technical moves by Mordecai but I suppose the intensity of using the ropes helps to get over the "punishment of sins" gimmick. Nice use of Razor's Edge as a finish goes with crucifixion type of religious idea. No t bad debut in general.
PPV worthy: YES (BECAUSE OF DEBUT)
5* RATING - JD = ** PPV = (*)
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn vs. Rico and Charlie Haas (c)
For the moments Rico and Charlie are funny and I like them but I have got to guess the gimmick is going to get old really fast. As a match it wasn't too bad, almost no build up again meant that they were relying on Rico and Hass gimmick to carry it through. I don't like generic tag-teams and Holly and Gunn are the epitome of them.
PPV worthy: NO
5* RATING - JD = *** PPV = (**)
[B]WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match
Chavo Guerrero vs. Jacqueline (c)
Chavo Has one hand tied behind his back
Short match that got the job done of getting the title off Jaqueline. The cheating aspect was good to begin with but i feel it was over used and should have been saved and done just once for the finish. I like the use of the Gory Bomb by Chavo, he has been needing a finsiher for a while.
PPV worthy: NO
5* RATING - JD = ** PPV = (*)
United States Championship Match
Rene Dupree vs. John Cena (c)
Best match of the night, Cena and Dupree had good chemistry together int he ring and it wasn't Cena's usual spot-fest. If one feud were to carry on form JD it would be this one IMO. Nice spots with the Hip-Hop Drop and French jig and these two really held their own for a solid match up. One criticism would have to be the overly long rest hold in the middle.
PPV worthy: YES
5* RATING - JD = ***** PPV = (****)
Booker T vs. The Undertaker
As I predicted it was pretty much a squash, not very entertaining either, but it did last longer than I expected and Booker T almost got some decent offence in. Interesting though that Booker emptied his voodoo bag which had sand in, as I remember sand wasn’t one of the things the gypsy told Booker to put in.
PPV worthy: NO
5* RATING - JD = *** PPV = (**)
WWE Championship Match
John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Eddie Guerrero (c)
Wait…this was actually a match!?!? I’m sorry I didn’t realize. As I see it the WWE bottled it. They wouldn’t let JBL go through a real wrestling match so they turn it into a joke. The WWE title should be about wrestling not ducking in and out of the ring every 8 seconds and chair shots. The same applies to the finish; the WWE dropped the ball here because now we have to see JBL and Eddie in a rematch and probably in a cage or with another added “hardcore” stipulation. Why wasn’t Eddie disqualified early on for using the cable? This was horrible; there were barley any real wrestling moves. If Eddie was supposed to blade that badly then that definitely wasn’t necessary, especially for this excuse for a match.
PPV worthy: NO
5* RATING - JD = * PPV = (NO STARS)
Overal PPV RATING: *
With only one match above average and only another one scraping an average, Judgement Day was a pretty poor example of what Smackdown has become. This PPV should be buried in the archives of WWE forever and never even be attempted to be realeased on DVD.
