As of right now the plan is for Booker T to be repackaged after Judgement Day, as an outlandish reprise of the old Papa Shango character. The company also has some wilder storylines planned for many of their current characters, as well.
It seems as though WWE is going in a direction of modeling some of their newer characters on previous stars that have gotten over well. Examples of this are Mordecai (early Undertaker), Tyson Tomko (early Kevin Nash as Diesel), Rene Dupree (Rick Martel), and Eugene.

Maybe the WWE think their fans are so stupid that they wont think that some of their wrestler's gimmicks were from past WWE stars.

The WWE is really dropping the ball with Booker's character. When Booker came to SD he proved that he can play a serious top heel. Till this day (despite the horrible angle's he is being placed in) he is playing a heel very well. I don't think they realize that it is 2004. Those supernatural gimmicks don't work anymore. Fans have become smarter and rather than realizing that and trying to find a way to cater to them they do the complete opposite. I really would like to sit in on a booking meeting and find out who in their right mind thinks that the crap being produced on Smackdown is worth putting on television. Booker should just retire now. The WWE already killed his character and now they seem dead set on burying it.

There isn't much point in putting effort into Booker T, because he is near retirement.
there is a point inot putting effort into him because at the moment, Smackdown! needs him. He may be near retirement but he has a good innnings in him yet. Obviously the WWE creative team don't agree.
I like Mordecai angle though, has been done very well i think.
The WWE may be re-hashing angles but it's quite clever if you think about their target-audience ( early teens, in my opinion) then people of that age won't remember Rick Martel, early undertaker and possibly deisel

It doesn't matter what we or WWE think about Booker, he said that he wants to retire soon, and his current push won't affect his decision.

Well like I said before, goodbye Booker's career, RIP. This gimmick is going to make him retire faster. Papa Shango? You have got to be kidding me. I think Mordecai will become a big star in the company, if they don't push him too fast. I have seen some of his OVW matches, and he is pretty good.

It could kill his career. Yeah, but give it a chance it might work, it might not! There is nothing we can do to stop them killing his career. We just have to hope that it doesn't.

Booker T might as well just retire while his character still has some credibility. "Booker Shango" is gonna kill him.
