View Full Version : Can the cruiserweight division be saved?

Last week on Smackdown the WWE took a **** on the cruiserweight title and the division for that matter. While it is amlost impossible to salvage, I think there is a way. If I were booking things (get used to me saying this because I love being in the role of the booker) I would have Kurt Angle call Jackie out to the ring. I'd have him then say that Chavo challenged any cruiser in the world. He could then say that I wouldn't have a problem with you having the belt if you weren't already contracted to Raw. He could then say that he doesn't want a disgrace like her representing the cruiserweight division and that seeing as he wouldn't even try and pick up her contract she is stripped of the belt and needs to leave because she isn't a member of the Smackdown roster. Then I'd have him announce a matchup for Judgment Day (god nows they need matchups) a six man elimination match for the cruiserweight title. He'd say that two men would start in the ring and that they could tag out anytime during the matchup and that once you're pinned or you submit you are out and that the match would continue until there is one man left in the ring who would be crowned the new cruiserweight champion. I'd have the match consist of Chavo Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Billy Kidman, Paul London, Jamie Noble, and Shannon Moore. I'd put the belt on someone who hasn't either had the belt for a while or hasn't had the belt at all. The best possibility would be a Jamie Noble or Paul London with Jamie Noble getting the nod because he has a character and is undergoing a character tweak at the moment and that would be perfect for establishing his new character. After that I would still leave guys like Chavo in the spotlight while giving guys like Kidman and London characters and having between 1 and 2 (one atleast) cruiser matchups each week on SD. Given the proper booking the WWE can definitely save the cruiser division rather than killing it along with the rest of SD. Do you think the division can be salvaged? What do you think of my idea of salvaging it?

Well some of the writters from WCW must have kidnapped a few of the WWE writters. That isn't something that SmackDown would do, the cruiserweight division just like SmackDown itself is dying a painfully slow, death. The contenders of the division aren't competiting and the main attraction in Rey Mysterio will probably vie for the U.S. Title in the near future. I think the Cruiserweight title like the Intercontinental Title, needs a break(maybe a month or two) so the WWE can gather contenders, sign new talent, and mainly give their cruiserweight time to rest. I would give the title a fresh beginning, make another belt and have a battle royal (i.e. Intercontinental Title Battle Royal 1993) and let the last two contenders compete on an episode of SmackDown and just to answer your question again if I didn't, yes the Cruiserweight Division can be saved.

Yes it can be saved. I don't think they should take the title away right away. Even when the IC title came back, it was still being used as a joke that was switching hands every month. Orton brought its meaning back.
Back to the topic, I think Jackie should loose the title to another cruiser-weight. They have so many deserving athletes on SmackDown that could use that credibility for their character. I still don't know why they gave Jacqueline that belt. It would have been better if she started from the bottom of the division. She should have worked her way up to Chavo and the championship.
The real story was the complete opposite. She was off of television for such a long time, she came back one night and stole the show.
I think the WWE better come up with something quick, before the title really looses its credibility. I hope she doesn't go on a fluke winning streak.

I think they should strip Jackie of the title cause who ever beats her suck cause they beat a women and same if they lose to her.

Well can it be saved? All that can be said it is going to take a whole lot of help now to get the credability back in the title. When she won the CW title it just lost all the credability and Chavos reputation out of the window due to losing to a women. I can't say i am happy, they had a **** load of talent waiting for there chances to wrestle for the title that could of been the big thing for Smackdown. Smackdown has been getting worse week after week, the CW division could of been the big thing going for Smackdown, but they just took a **** on the division by making Jacky the champ. I just hope this changes this week because i don't think i can stand her as champ. Just glad that i don't watch Smackdown no more, they just given me an excuse to not watch it. They will have to do something big, or Smackdown can be pronounced dead.

I have no problem with the fact that Jacqueline is a woman. It is possible for a woman to pick up the Cruiserweight title in the future and reign as a credible champion. But the fact that Jackie's a woman, just came to Smackdown, and took the title from an over and stable champion like Chavo Guerrero is the problem. I can't believe how stupid the writers can be and I am embarrassed for all of the WWE cruiserweights. I don't even care about the cruiser title anymore.

If Jackie were a particularly talented wrestler than I really wouldn't mind. I have no problem with a women being a champion but if they decide to have one than she should be talented. I mean Paul London is rotting away on Velocity, they could have easily had him win this title. I have a feeling that Jackie will have a very long title reign as well. All I can hope for is that in the end London or Akio beats her for it.

It can be saved if they give the people who deserve it a chance to prove themselves. Paul London needs to be put in a storyline involving the CW belt.

they need more CW matches, such as 4 ways and battle royals. they need to be given more air time to make a name of themselves. hire more japanese and mexcian wrestlers. the talent is there its just not been used.

Hmm, once again I had to see Velocity to see something be done right. Last night I saw a cruiserweight matchup that was PPV quality between Shannon Moore and Jamie Noble. The thing that made the match so good is that it was what wrestling is about. Just the in ring work and no stupid angles like Jacquline winning the belt, Chavo Sr. winning the belt, etc. That matchup reminded me of what cruiserweight wrestling was all about. I guarantee you if they put that match on an edition of SD it would get over so much. It's time for them to just do what they do on Velocity, give the cruisers 10 - 15 min (atleast two matches on SD) and let them produce art.

I agree, matches like that should be moved onto Smackdown, and need to push the likes of London who has lots of talent and can be a great champ.
