Faces

Austin- sold more merchandise than anyone in wrestling history. Able to last for so long and be over with esentially the same gimmick.

Hogan- Self explanitory

The Rock- Mosterously over with the fans. The best on the mic of all time, nobody comes even close to him.

Bret Hart- Gigantically over while setting a president for actual wrestling. Was small in stature, but he had a ton of Hart (pun intended). An absolute legend in Canada and probably will go down the best wrestler in most Canadians eyes.

Mick Foley- I give him the final spot over people like Undertaker and HBK because he is over in every part of the world and has given his body to entertain the fans. If anyone doubts Foley as being a top face, listen to the reaction he gets every time he enters an arena.

Top heels:

Triple H- Was the top heel in the WWE and was carrying the company in all of 2000. Was so hated and the fans would cheer anybody that he was wrestling. Up until he tore his quad, he was also a ring general who had very good mic skills as well.

Raven- Very, Very underated as a heel. Worked in almost every company and was successfull in all of them ( including WWF/WWE in the very early stages of his WWE career). He is one of the best ever on the mic, and doesn't have to rely on catch phrases to deliver a fantastic interview.

Ric Flair- a sixteen time world champion and most of his title reigns came when he was a heel. Great mic skills and a very good wrestler who tells a story in the ring.

Hogan- Was so hated mainly because he was so loved before that point. He was quite possibly the biggest face of all time and when he turned heel it was one of the biggest stories in all of wrestling.

Vince McMahon- One of the main reasons that Steve Austin became one of the biggest stars of all-time. Has a suprising amout of mic skills for somebody who started off simply as an owner.

[Chazz]

Faces:

1. Austin- simply put, he outdid all that Hogan accomplished. Austin is the biggest star in wrestling history.

2. Hogan- was the first to put wrestling on the map and helped Vince to make it mainstream.

3. Rock- became big because of Austin and HHH. The best on the stick with Jericho right there with him.

4. Foley- the "hardcore legend" is a favorite no matter where he goes. The fans will always love him for what he gave us.

5. Sting- with help from Flair, became the backbone of WCW and was always a fan favorite.

Heels:

1. Flair- the best ever. He beats out HHH because of his credentials, and because he carried WCW for many years.

2. HHH- the best heel today with no equal. People love to hate him.

3. Kevin Sullivan- glad to see someone else mention him, because I feel Kevin never gets the credit he deserves. A true, classic heel.

4. Harley Race- in his day, nobody could cut a promo like him. He was calm and cool with his delivery, yet you feared the man because you knew he could kick your ass.

5. "Ravishing" Rick Rude- he ranks high with me because of his promo work and his ring psychology. The guy could taunt the fans so well, you wanted to get into the ring and beat him down.

Top faces:
1. Austin-As Kid said, Austin is the only wrestler to outdo what Hogan did as far as putting WWE on the mainstream map.

2. Hogan-WWE would not be the same today if it wasn't for Hulkamania in the 80s.

3. Rock-The guy has great natural entertaiment talent and mic skills. You just can't teach that. I don't think anyone has had more successful promos. Rock is not just all talk. He will get it done in the ring as well. He is definitely not afraid to sell moves and try to make his opponent look good. I have never seen a prowrestler with as much influence outside the wrestling world as in it. He has probably been on more talk shows and more magazine covers than any other wrestler out there.

4. Sting- I kind of thought of him as the Hogan of the NWA/WCW. Helped put WCW on the mainstream map even before Tuner and the NWO.

5. This is a very tough decision to make for the final spot but I have to agree with Kid and give it to Foley, he is definitely know all over especiall for his extremely hardcore matches in Japan. However, honorable mentions go to HBK and Undertaker. HBK is just pure talent and like the Rock has that natural charisma and raw entertainment ability that automatically attracts multitudes of fans. Yes, some people in Canada may disagree, but we are not going there. You can never leave the Undertaker out. The deadman gimmick is one of the most successful gimmicks in wrestling history. I say that because by today's standards the gimmick probably should not have worked.

1. Vince Mcmahon-I honestly have not seen anyone do the heel role better. I don't care how smart you are or how much you know about wrestling, the "Mr. Mcmahon" gimmick is very convincing. It is all about pyschoglogy and want Vince does extremely well and what all good heels do well is they know how to get inside fans heads. Many people can relate to the coparate boss from hell. The Mr. Mcmahon character is so interesting(for lack of a better word) because you really don't know where the line between the gimmick and real life self is. I am not sure how far Vince's TV character is from his real life self. Well when I see him outside the WWE he is more calm and professional and less intense. However he can definitely be a tough businessman when he wants to.

2. Flair-Duh. In the booming years of the 80's WWE might have had the top face, but NWA/WCW had the top heel. If it wasn't for Flair and Sting and their fued, I am not even sure there would have been a WCW. It probably would have stayed an NWA company. Flair has been the dominating the bad guy role for decades.

3. Triple H: The wrestler we all love to hate and that is why he is at the top. Triple H is by far the best wrestling heel since the attitude era. HHH is a true student of the business. He definitely has a mastery of the psychological aspects of wrestling. When he does promos he knows exactly what emotional buttons to push with the fans. Sometimes he does it so subtle that you don't even notice it. Triple H is not stupid he probably knows very well out internet fans(including most of us) feel about him. I wonder how many anti Triple H theads are out there. Most of us probably feel like most of those were on the IOW website. Triple H will just take that and use it too his advantage. The cerebral assassin is not just a gimmick.

4. Ted Dibiase-Truly a classic heel. I am not sure if he ever went face.

5. Hollywood Hogan-What! Hogan makes both list. Yes it is true. The fact that that his heel turn was a total surprise for most fans makes it even better. Hogan helped make the NWO probably the best stable in history and helped put WCW on the mainstream map. Not to mention his part in helping WCW dominate the ratings wars for 88 weeks. The top face in the business can also be a top heel. It is not that for from logic if you think about it. Well, Austin kind of screwed up that up.

Honorable mentions:
Ravishing Rick Rude- I totally agree with what Chazz said about Rude.
Rowdy Roddy Piper-In the comic book style gimmicks of the 80s he was the main villian for a while in the WWF.
Bobby Heenan-A classic heel manager and commentator. I don't think anyone has done it better.
