TNA iMPACT! New Years Special Results
8PM Show

Shane catches up with “Bullet” Bob Armstrong who is still intent on reuniting the 4 Live Kru. He says he will try to talk to Konnan tonight.

A replay package highlights Christian Cage’s “Jeff Jarrett mocking” segment from last week, the 4 Live Kru situation, the Raven/Zbysko feud, and Jarrett/Monty Brown beating on Christian Cage last week.

Monty Brown and Jeff Jarrett vs. Shark Boy and Kenny King

Shark Boy and King are already in the ring. Brown and Jarrett make separate entrances. During Jarrett’s entrance, Jackie Gayda comes out and starts screaming and trying to slap Jeff Jarrett. Don West says he’ll try to get some answers from Gayda after this match. Gayda gets removed by security. The match starts with Brown and Jarrett dominating. Brown has King in the ring as Jarrett slams Shark Boy into the announce table. Brown throws King out of the ring and throws him over the ring steps. Shark Boy fights back and throws Jarrett over the rail and gives him a bite. He throws Jarrett back inside and hits a dropkick off the top. Then another. He tries a third, but Monty Brown catches him. Now all four men are in the ring. Brown pounces King. Jarrett Strokes Shark Boy. Double pin. West leaves to find Jackie Gayda. The Scorpion logo flashes on the screen and the lights go out.

Winners: Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown

Don West catches up with Gayda in the back. Gayda says this is about business, NOT love. She says Jarrett promised her stardom on SpikeTV, but he chose Gail Kim instead. Gayda says she knows some real dirt on Jarrett and she will not hesitate to tell TNA management if she doesn’t get her money and opportunity real soon. DW tells us this is really bizarre. Thanks, DW.

Commercial highlights the awesomeness of TNA.

2005 Impactful Events highlights Rhino’s accomplishments in TNA this year.

A1 w/ Coach D’Amore vs. Rhino

Crowd breaks into a huge “Rhino” chant. He puts A1 in a headlock. He hits A1 with a clothesline and gets a 2 count. A1 is thrown out of the ring and Rhino slingshots out over the top onto him. A1 is thrown back in and Rhino gets another 2 count. A1 hits a neck breaker and gets a 1 count. He hammers Rhino in the corner until Rhino starts punching back. He hits A1 with a lariat and a spine buster. Gore!Gore!!Gore!!! 1-2-3. Uh oh. Coach D’Amore has the hockey stick and nails Rhino in the back. Rhino is unphased. Tenay and West cheer on Rhino to “get that big load!” Abyss hits the ring and choke slams Rhino. Fists to the head follow. Abyss throws Rhino into the ropes and nails the Black Hole Slam. James Mitchell and Coach D’Amore shake hands.

Winner: Rhino

“Bullet” Bob Armstrong and Konnan are talking outside. Konnan says he has always hated Kip James. Bob tries to convince him that fences can be mended. Bob says they’re family and sites some examples of why. Konnan settles down and says he can change himself if Bob helps him.

2005 Impactful Events looks at the hilarious Team 3D burial sketch. “Can someone please get Abyss a tissue”

Commercial highlighting the X Division and promoting Final Resolution.

2005 Impactful Events highlights Samoa Joe and his unbeaten streak.

Roderick Strong vs. Samoa Joe

Strong gets a very positive reaction coming out. I start the “Joe!” chant from my house. The crowd follows. The bell rings and the two circle each other. They lock up and Joe is totally unphased by chops from Strong. He starts kicking Strong and takes him down. Oh God, Shannon Moore and Dave Hebner are back. Is this going anywhere? Tenay says he did some research, and Hebner has been hired as a consultant to TNA for TNA. I believe that you didn’t know, Mike. Back to action, Joe is still doing his thing on Strong. He locks in a weird variation of the Camel Clutch it looks like. Hebner is “studying” the action in the ring. Two running clotheslines and a kick don’t take Joe down, but a backbreaker does. Joe powers out of a pin attempt. Strong tries to take Joe up, but he can’t do it. Joe catches Strong and hits the Muscle Buster and locks on the Kakina Clutch as Strong immediately taps.
The Muscle Buster is the Morphoplex move of the night. Yay!

Winner: Samoa Joe

Holy crap. Konnan, Homicide, and Apolo and beating down Bob Armstrong.
Konnan says tell BG and Kip not to send an old man to do their dirty work.

2005 Impactful Events highlights Christian Cage’s jump to TNA.

2005 Impactful Events shows how Jarrett beat Raven in Canada on September 15.

James Storm w/ Chris Harris and Gail Kim vs. AJ Styles

AJ gets his usual big pop upon entrance. The stitches are very visible on his upper lip. They lock up and Storm gets AJ in a headlock. AJ throws him off, but gets decked off the ropes. He hits a dropkick and Storm bails. Commercial break. Commercial for TNA video releases. Back in the ring, Styles hits a hurricanrana, slams Storm, and hits a knee drop. He whips Storm into the buckle and hits a flying arm. Storm turns things around and hits the Eye of the Storm. He keeps working on AJ with some minor moves. He goes for a pin and gets 2. One more time. 2 count again. Storm goes for the Superkick, AJ blocks it and hits a Pele out of nowhere. They botch the inverted DDT spot, but AJ finishes it anyway. Styles gets a 2 count. He motions that he’s going for the Styles Clash, but Storm counters. Aj sets up on the top rope, but Harris grabs his leg. He hits a cross body on Storm anyway. Gail Kim goes upstairs as the ref’s distracted. AJ catches her and sets up the Styles Clash, but Storm breaks a bottle over his head from behind. Storm with a Superkick. Andrew Thomas FINALLY turns around and counts the 3.

Winner: James Strom

Christopher Daniels is out trying to tell the ref what happened. Here comes Larry Zbysko. Why does this never happen when other people cheat. Zbysko says it will be AJ and Daniels vs. AMW for the titles at midnight! Daniels and Styles shake in the ring as AMW attacks them. AMW is dominating until Christian Cage runs in with a chair. Cage has a mic. He tells AMW they will lose at midnight.

Midnight Show

Christian Cage has a mic and counts down to the New Year even though this was taped. Mike Tenay is also in the ring and announces that Sting is the newest member of the TNA roster. Cage says the main event at Final Resolution will be Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown vs. Christian Cage and….STING!!! Cue “My World.” Here comes Jarrett. He says that he and Brown will win at Final Resolution. Crowd breaks into a “boring” chant. Jarrett says Cage doesn’t have what it takes to be champion. Cage rips Jarrett and says his New Year’s Resolution is to physically abuse Jeff Jarrett instead of verbally abusing him. Jarrett hits the ring and as Cage goes for the Unprettier, he gets blindsided by Monty Brown. Rhino enters to even things out, but AMW soon joins the fray. Team 3D comes in. We go to commercial.

AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels vs. America’s Most Wanted w/ Gail Kim

I’m predicting a title change to kick off the new year. We start with Storm and Daniels. The Cowboy starts off the offense. Daniels reverses things with a pair of arm drags. Harris interferes, but AJ comes in to help. Eventually, he and Daniels double team Storm. AJ and Daniels are left in the ring as we go to commercial.

X Division/Final Resolution commercial.

We’re back with AJ and Daniels dominating Storm in their corner. Daniels gets a 2 count. Storm gets a tag in to Harris and he throws Daniels out of the ring. Storm goes to work on Daniels with the ref distracted. Daniels gets thrown back in and Harris gets a 2 count on him. Wildcat takes him up into the suplex position and drops him after a few seconds.
"Pussycat” chant affects Harris. Double team on Daniels while ref works with Styles.

Commercial break.

Daniels starts to fight back against Storm. Both men are down and the ref starts the count. Both men tag in and Aj goes to town on both members of AMW. He power slams Harris down and gets to 2 before Storm interferes. Daniels holds both members outside the ring and AJ flip dives onto them over the top rope. AJ hits a dropkick onto Harris into the ring. Wildcat hits the Catatonic, but Daniels saves AJ after 2. Harris inadvertently knocks out Rudy Charles and calls for the BME. He misses it and gets Superkicked by Storm. AJ hits the Styles Clash on Storm (it looked like Storm’s head got tucked in a bit and driven into the mat). There’s no ref to count, but here comes…Shannon Moore. What the hell? He drops AJ and Storm gets the 3 count.
I guess AJ got “Punk’d.”

Winners and still NWA Tag Team Champions: America's Most Wanted

One final video package shows recent events in TNA.

Well it was nice of Spike TV to give TNA two shows and the whole "first wrestling show of 2006" is a nice little coo for TNA. As far as this show goes i'm happy to see Homicide make his TNA debut although i'm not too sure about this group, i don't really have a problem with Konnan but Apolo doesn't interest me in the slightest and it seems to be him who Homicide will get stuck tagging with.

Good for TNA to get Jarrett and Brown out of the way early in this show because as the weeks go on i become less and less tolerant of both men and their positions in the company.

Speaking of these two i am not looking forward to the Final Resolution Main Event. Granted the return of Sting can be promoted as a big thing but will it be that worthwhile? Steve Borden is not in his prime anymore so we just don't know if he can go like he once did and considering his opponents are men who both need to be carried in their matches. The only way this match can work is if Christian pulls out all the stops but i don't know of any wrestler who could seriously carry this match as a P.P.V Main Event.

Joe continues to dominate although i'm rather against him running through Strong and completely jobbing him out as well. Strong is one hell of a talent who could have a damn good future in TNA is they allow it, i like how their pushing Joe but i would rather see a fully developed match with Strong getting in some good offense over Joe just beating the shit out of Strong although that is entertaining. Need to ask where the interaction between Joe and Daniels is though considering they have this big feud and an X title match at the next P.P.V.

Another good thing is Rhino not being lost in the shuffle after losing to Jarrett, same with Abyss after losing to Sabu. I imagine these two could have a really good feud and a decent match at Final Resolution. I think the winner of this match will be looking towards the Title picture afterwards or heading near it.

Finally good to see Shannon Moore find his place in the wrestling world. Moore is a good worker who was tremendously underutilised by the WWE and hopefully he will get a good chance in TNA. A feud with Styles looks to be in the works which makes sense as since Moore wants to start off with a bang and Styles is the man to beat in the X Division even if he isn't the champion. Although Styles is set for his International Showcase with Tanahashi i expect for something to build between Styles and Moore over the next few weeks and maybe Moore will play a part in the International Showcase costing Styles the match and then leading to a match at the February P.P.V.

So all in all not a bad pair of shows for TNA although there are quite a few things they need to work on. Still iMPACT! is going strong and hopefully the ratings will reflect this. Please Discuss this weeks double episodes of iMPACT!

- Great squash match to start off the show.

- Gayda's got that weird, "I dramatically act by throwing my body around" style going and it doesn't work. It wasn't nearly as bad as some people pegged it to be.

-Joe/Strong was MOTN IMO ~! Just a shame it didn’t go longer. Joe looks like a nugget, because the towel he’s carrying around looks like it’s covered in shit instead of blood though.

- Marked out at the debut of Homicide. I swear I went spoiler free for this and honestly didn’t expect to see him, Apollo and Konnan “do a number” on Bob ~! Fucking awesome.

- The videos throughout the show were all excellent. Especially loved the Samoa Joe one.
