The RAW brand of the WWE seems to have the upper hand in the “battle of the brands.” This, however, does not mean that Smackdown! Does not have its fair share of talent. The difference is that RAW is “where the big boys play.” the RAW brand has most of the company’s big names. With Evolution, Benoit, Jericho, HBK, and Kane (among others) the RAW roster is stacked.

Smackdown seems to be the developmental brand. Most of the new talent goes to Smackdown! Where they either get a push or get booted to Velocity and eventually fired. Smackdown has plenty of talent, such as Eddie Guerrero, Undertaker, and John Cena (among others). However Smackdown lacks the amount of big names that makes RAW superior.

What to do- In my opinion, the draft lottery could have made the brands “balanced.” However, when Triple H was traded back to RAW, the Smackdown lost a villain who could have drawn in more viewers. If Smackdown is to achieve the same glory as RAW, changes need to take place.
1. Smackdown should go live.
If Smackdown and RAW are supposed to be “competing brands,” both shows should be live. By Smackdown not being live, RAW automatically gets the upper hand, as spoilers can be read for the Smackdown show. This is a detriment to Smackdown due to the fact that people can read the spoilers instead of watching the show.
2. Create fueds between the brands.
What I mean by this is create a fued similar to the RAW/Nitro fued. Create factions in both brands that would compete against each other. This could create viewer response to the fued and draw in people who miss the days of RAW vs. Nitro
3. Fueds for trades
Forget the lottery or basic trades. Each GM could select 4 members of their roster to fight in a match. This match could take place at an interpromotional pay-per-view. The winning team’s general manager would get to pick 4 superstars from the opposing brand to join their brand. The winning brand would also get to pass 4 members of their roster off to the losing brand.

These are just a few Random Thoughts I have about the current situation between the brands in the WWE.

This is my first column, and was written during my extra boring government class. Please leave me some feedback telling me how I can improve my writing style for a later column.
Thanks!

Pretty good for a first column. You hit your points and even had answers for them. The only problem with Smackdown going live is that it would take time to make it happen. Plus, I think Vince likes the idea of having only one live show. He has had Smackdown for five years now and has shown no desire to make it a live show. Me? I would love for Smackdown to be live. I feel more people would watch it because they would not have spoilers to read. The main thing hurting Smackdown is talent. Brock's gone, Angle and Big Show are ailing, and Vince has not tried to soften the blow. Anyways, good first column. The only advice I can give is make sure your column has a good flow to it. As long as you do that, you'll be fine.

I am looking forward to it, think about layout too, put breaks after you finished one topic something like that. So that if it is a big column it gives members a chance to look away from the screen and know where they are.

Good point Road Warrior. I try to do that as well (although after I post a column I find sometimes that I don't). Another thing worth mentioning is this. Don't get caught up in grammar too much. It is very common to have a few in a long column. Sure, it is a good idea to preview what you write, but sometimes people don't have the time to do all that. Just remember, know what you want to talk about and you'll be fine. Not everyone can spell with correct grammar like me. :D
