Hello again and welcome to The Complete Shot! Hope everyone had a great week. I know I did. I was a regular partying animal from Thursday to Saturday. First off, I'd like to thank everyone that put in their feedback for the column. I will do my damnedest to try and live up to those standards.
At the end of the last Shot, I asked people what they wanted to see me write about next. At the top of the list was Undertaker's return, therefore, I will be looking at that this week. So sit back, relax and enjoy getting hit with The Complete Shot!
The Undertaker's WresteMaina XX Return
The Good
It was bound to happen sometime. Before Survivor Series, Taker was drastically winding down. The return of the Deadman was just what he needed in order to spice things up. I remember watching a video of the Royal Rumble, seeing Kane in the ring, then seeing the lights go out and hearing the gong. Everyone knew what that meant, especially Kane. When the gong hit, I remember a shiver being sent up my spine. The next couple of weeks, videos played on Raw signifying the return of the Undertaker. Finally, the hype was over. It was WrestleMania XX. Kane was out in the ring and "OH YES!" blared over the speakers. Paul Bearer came out, followed by druids. Then, the signature death march played and out came Undertaker. The Undertaker of old was back, and he came back with a vengeance taking out Kane with a Tombstone. Granted, we've only seen him once since WM, but that is only because the WWE is trying to figure out who to feed to Taker. By the looks of things, Book will be the first to go.
The Bad
Undertaker should have never, I repeat NEVER, had his character changed to the American Badass. The second that happened, we could no longer believe that this man was once dead. The disbelief was gone. The WWF had single-handedly ruined the Phenom by making him human. In the "eulogy", Kane hit the nail on the head when he said that The Undertaker died a long time ago. Another thing that I don't like about this is the fact that wrestlers are going to be forced to job to this man. Come to think of it, it wouldn't be so bad. I mean, the Raw superstars did it all the time with Triple H and look where that got them! What does this mean for Kane?? The second he lost to Undertaker, he was no longer a monster. In fact, in the weeks leading up to WM, he showed a tremendous amount of weakness, which all but ruined what he had built up since his heel turn. I'm glad that Taker has returned to his roots, but the WWE must really be kicking themselves now knowing that they're going to have to sacrifice a **** load of talent in order to keep Taker up to par.
The Ugly
Yes, Taker IS back...but how much gas is left in the tank? As we saw right before Survivor Series, he certainly wasn't at his best. I guess maybe that could be why he hasn't been seen in a while. Perhaps he's trying to "get his groove back". I wonder how long it will be until the WWE realizes that they shouldn't screw with continuity. First Undertaker then Kane. Personally, I think Taker is more suited to Raw, as there are more big players there whereas SmackDown! only has guys like Big Show and Booker T who are the top heels at the moment (I REFUSE to refer to Bradshaw as being a top heel!). Well, let's just hope this run is MUCH better than his last.
Well, my friends. That is all for this week. Watch out tomorrow for A Shot in the Dark.
