I've changed the name of my column, since my ideas have been anything but radical! Today, as I look at the divas of yesterday, they were few and far between; the impact they made paved the way for the divas of today. In this the new and improved, Rachel's 50 Cents, WrestlePower and IOW's #1 Flirt presents to you: WHEN DIVAS ATTACK!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dawn Marie (Smackdown):
Claim to Fame: Valet for Lance Storm (Impact Players) in ECW and the WWE’s first Anna Nicole.
Storylines: She was Al Wilson’s wife and Torrie Wilson’s stepmother; she killed her husband on their wedding night and now has become more jealous of her stepdaughter’s beauty.
Women’s Champion Material: This has yet to be determined, but her match against Torrie after her husband’s “death” showed that she has the meddle to gain the experience.
Gail Kim (RAW):
Claim to Fame: Won the women’s title in her first debut televised match!
Storylines: Sided with Trish Stratus for a little while; sided with Molly Holly to rid the WWE of Trish; “slept” with Raw co-GM, Eric Bischoff; lost women’s title to Molly Holly on an episode of Raw.
Women’s Champion Material: Many people criticized her in-ring work, so she lost the title. Improving her game, Gail could regain the title back, but she has been sidelined with a collarbone injury and has yet to make it back to Raw to reclaim her title back.
Ivory (RAW):
Claim to Fame: 3-time WWE Women’s champion. Tough Enough II trainer (with Al Snow, Hardcore Holly and Chavo Guerrero).
Storylines: She was the female fire starter for the WWE’s faction Right to Censor (with Steven Richards, Big Bossman and the former WWE Superstar Bull Buchanan), and a feud with DX Tori.
Women’s Champion Material: Being a 3-time women’s champ, Ivory has the experience that Dawn Marie doesn’t have. She is tough and beautiful, every diva on RAW should pay attention.
Miss Jackie (Smackdown):
Claim to Fame: Won developmental contract by winning the second Tough Enough along with Linda Miles.
Storylines: Came in and had a tag match against Trish; left for OVW and came back as valet/manager of Rico. Was traded to Smackdown along with Rico for A-Train and Chuck Palumbo.
Women’s Champion Material: Like Gail Kim, Jackie was criticized for her in-ring ability or lack thereof. Still is green, but will probably never be women’s champion; will probably be in the rank with Terri.
Jacqueline (RAW):
Claim to Fame: 2-time WWE Women’s Champion, Tough Enough trainer (with Al Snow, Hardcore Holly and former diva Tori) and WWE referee.
Storylines: She teamed up with Edge and Christian for a feud with the Hardy Boyz and Lita; sidekick with Terri; mini-feud with Victoria which led to a Triple Threat match between them and Trish Stratus.
Women’s Champion Material: Like Ivory, Jackie has the experience to up the ante. A woman like Jackie is sure to make everyone’s head turn; also, gulping down a protein shake with pig intestines makes her tough enough definitely!
Jazz (RAW):
Claim to Fame: The first woman since Chyna to scare the hell out of everyone; 2-time WWE Women’s champion.
Storyline: Made her debut at Survivor Series 2001 in the six-pack challenge. Went after Trish Stratus with a vengeance; won the women’s championship from Trish on two occasions; then went after Victoria setting up a triple threat match at WrestleMania. Teamed up with Teddy Long and beat Trish Stratus for the women’s belt at Backlash 2003.
Women’s Champion Material: Considering that she is one of the roughest divas to hold the championship, her place has been cemented. Her fierce competitiveness and tortured STF submission move, Jazz will never be underestimated.
Lita (RAW):
Claim to Fame: 1-time WWE Women’s champion; valet and mimicker of Essa Rios from 1999-2000; the only female member of the now-defunct Team Extreme (on- and off-screen girlfriend of Matt Hardy)
Storyline: Valet and mimicker for Essa Rios; played the innocent victim of Rios’ anger; gain popularity with the Hardy Boyz and Team Extreme; caused strife between Matt and Jeff Hardy near the end of 2001(special guest referee in their match at Vengeance 2001); came back to Raw and saved Trish Stratus and was saved by Christian after a post match beat down by Victoria and Molly.
Women’s Champion Material: Lita returned to Raw to help save Trish Stratus from Molly Holly and Gail Kim. Her work in the ring is sloppy and she moves slowly (a surgery will do that to you!), but she knows what being the champ is all about and can easily get the gold around her waist.
Molly Holly (RAW):
Claim to Fame: The pure and wholesome cousin of Crash and Hardcore Holly; 2-time WWE Women’s Champion and Hardcore Champion.
Storyline: Same as above; girlfriend of Spike Dudley causing strife between the Dudley Boyz; fought crime next to the WWE’s current Superhero, the Hurricane; turned her image upside down by going after then women’s champion, Trish Stratus (she beat Trish for the belt on June 23, 2002). Teamed up with Gail Kim to rid the WWE of Trish Stratus; team of Molly and Gail Kim lost to team of Trish Stratus and Lita at Unforgiven.; involved in WMXX in which she either won the title back or get her head shaved: she lost!
Women’s Champion Material: Trained by Dean Malenko, Molly has the training and the gymnastic past to elevate to the top of the ladder. What will the future hold for Molly Holly? She’ll leave it up to fate!
Nidia (RAW):
Claim to Fame: Winner of Tough Enough I. Trailer park trash girlfriend of former Cruiserweight Champion, Jamie Noble.
Storyline: Unlike her male counterpart, Maven, Nidia was sent to OVW to finish up training. She was revealed as the Hurricane’s stalker and revealed a new boyfriend, former WCW Superstar, Jamie Noble; blinded by Tajiri’s black mist, then turned on Noble; Blindfold match against Noble at No Way Out 2003 and was drafted to Raw during the lottery.
Women’s Champion Material: She would benefit most over on RAW, but couldn’t possibly be content without Noble. Until the brand extension ends or she and Noble break up, Nidia will never get the chance.
Sable (Smackdown):
Claim to Fame: WWE’s first Playboy cover girl (twice); 1-time WWE Women’s Champion.
Storyline: Valet for Triple H, then went off on her own with husband Marc Mero; left WWE with a four year absence and made her return on WWE television by striking up a feud with the WWE’s Playboy cover girl, Torrie Wilson.
Women’s Champion Material: After Sablebombing Marc Mero, Sable has the talent to become champion again. But with aging comes the invariable: others, younger and more agile will gain control quickly.
Shaniqua (Smackdown):
Claim to Fame: Along with Jackie Gayda, won the second WWE developmental contract of Tough Enough II.
Storyline: came to Raw as Linda Miles, but like Miss Jackie was sent to OVW. Showed up on Smackdown, harboring hatred for all the divas; manager/valet of Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The Basham Brothers;
Women’s Champion Material: If moved over to Raw, she could benefit from the females all ready there. Trade Shaniqua and Nidia for Stacy Keibler and Terri, she could be a force to be reckoned with. She’s already shown that the Basham’s can’t resist her, so go on with the show!
Stacy Keibler (RAW):
Claim to Fame: Miss Han**** in WCW and was one of the divas to enter the WWE by way of the Invasion.
Storyline: Aligned herself with fellow WCW/Invasion diva, Torrie Wilson in the first ever Bra and Panties Tag Team match against Trish Stratus and Lita; was the one who Matt Hardy’s wondering eyes fell upon causing strife between Hardy and girlfriend Lita. Involved in a feud w/ Miss Jackie against Torrie Wilson and Sable, lost match at WMXX.
Women’s Champion Material: With limited ring experience, Stacy brings with her to the ring, big men and then she can stand her ground. Under either Ivory or Molly Holly’s tutorage she could become a major contender.
Terri (RAW):
Claim to Fame: WWE backstage announcer and using her sex appeal to get what she wants, Hardcore Champion.
Storyline: Was the cigar smoking manager Marlena to Goldust; was both the Hardyz and Edge and Christian’s manager; turned her back on both of them for the Radicalz from WCW; she was the girlfriend of Perry Saturn got revenge on his love for a mop by putting it through a wood shredder with help from former WWE and now NWA:TNA Superstar, Raven; is being content with being a backstage interviewer(remember when Chris Jericho was eating an apple then spitting it on her: a priceless face from Terri).
Women’s Champion Material: Never gonna happen; I think she is content with being an interviewer.
Torrie Wilson (Smackdown):
Claim to Fame: WCW diva and joined fellow WCW diva, Stacy Keibler on the WWE roster. WWE’s third and current diva to grace the pages of Playboy.
Storyline: In WCW, was Billy Kidman’s valet/girlfriend; joined the WWE by way of the Invasion; was involved in the first ever Bra and Panties match at Invasion 2001 with Stacy against Trish Stratus and Lita; a mini-feud between her and Trish Stratus over Jeff Hardy; was drafted to Smackdown during the brand extension and was girlfriend of Tajiri; then turned her back on him to go off on her own; feud with ECW diva Dawn Marie over Torrie’s father, Al Wilson. Their feud reached an all time high with a match at ? when Torrie won it with a swinging neckbraker.
Women’s Champion Material: She is developing her skills slowly, but surely. If she wants the championship bad and the WWE wants to give it to her, we could see: Torrie Wilson, WWE Women’s Champion!
Trish Stratus (RAW):
Claim to Fame: Mistress of Vince McMahon, manager/valet for tag team TnA(Test and Albert); 4-time WWE Women’s Champion.
Storyline: Manager/valet for TnA, mistress of Vince McMahon; teamed up with Big Show for a short time, where she caused…you guessed it, strife between Team Extreme; captured her first women’s title by beating Lita, Jazz, Might Molly, Ivory and Jacqueline in a six-pack challenge at Survivor Series 2001; a feud with Jazz put her on the path again, she met Jazz three times in the ring, beating her twice (beating her three times if you count SS 2001); was Molly Holly’s tormentor of jokes and was beat by Molly just barely into her second title reign; red hot feud with crazy and neurotic diva, Victoria; romance with Jeff Hardy shortly before his release from the WWE.; was the target of Molly Holly and Gail Kim’s wrath; teamed up with Lita, once again at Unforgiven beat Molly and Gail; turned against Chris Jericho at WMXX helping Christian pull out the win: Trish heel turn had begun
Women’s Champion Material: Being a 4-time champ, Trish has gotten into the ring with just about everyone diva on the roster; she knows what she has to do to either get the belt back or hold onto it.
Victoria (RAW):
Claim to Fame: The crazy and neurotic diva who haunted Trish Stratus’ past. The current WWE Women’s Champion.
Storyline: Came into the WWE under the guidance of former women’s champ, Molly Holly; first televised match was against Trish, which she won; her true colors came out and she told the world why she hated Trish Stratus; lost to Trish at No Mercy in October of 2002; challenged Trish to a Hardcore match at Survivor Series 2002, winning the women’s title and getting a little satisfaction on Trish Stratus(no Stratusfaction people!); Triple Threat match between Victoria, Trish and Jacqueline; lost her belt to Trish Stratus at WrestleMania XIX; won the women’s title in a Fatal Four Way vs. Lita, Molly Holly, and Jazz.
Women’s Champion Material: Victoria’s viciousness and resistance to pain has put her above the ranks. With power and beauty not seen since Chyna, Victoria gained attention and now the world of sports entertainment and Trish Stratus will never be the same again.
The WWE’s divas are an eclectic group with a mixture of every type. From Molly Holly’s technical prowess, Lita’s high flying, Stacy Keibler’s cheerleader, Jazz’s viciousness, and Victoria’s attention getting moves, the WWE divas have never looked better.
Many people ask me if I’m jealous of divas like Trish Stratus or Molly Holly. The answer is yes: jealous that they have a cool job! I’m not jealous of their beauty, because I consider myself beautiful, but the fact that there out there doing something that they love is my jealously. I would love to go out in front of thousands of people, beat up my fellow divas and some of my fellow male Superstars, travel everywhere without stopping to take a breathe and work for the biggest name in professional wrestling. People say that I say that because I’m not there, but what happened if I got a chance to do it? I would say yes in a heartbeat, nothing would deter me from it, not even the prospect of never seeing my family and friends on a regular basis. That is what the divas do, they defy convention, they don’t take no for an answer, only yes is the word for them.
The WWE divas are the most well-known and recognized people in the professional wrestling. They have beauty, brains and power, which is something that is why they are the greatest thing in sports entertainment. Without the divas who came before, Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, Wendy Ritcher, Sensational Sherri, and Alundra Blaze the divas of today would not have had the impact that they’ve had. So to the divas, “ **** the men, let’s drink to us!”
