Hey gang, I just added a new banner ad, but it is interactive so the advertising company could change the code on me and make it a pop up...my pop up blocker takes care of any pop ups, and even when I turn it off I rarely get anything, so let me know if anyone has any pop up problems and I will see what I can do to fix it. :)

Yeah, the ad was removed, there was two last time, now I'm basically attacked with ads when I come on the same computer. Seems like there is more. I'm even having troubles coming on here at my home computer because it makes my computer freeze. Might want to check up on Spyware and Adware, and beware, Ad companies won't tell you if that is encrypted into the ads.
I'm also getting hit with mad ads and a few trojan viruses are being picked up on my PC Trev.

Hey TL, check into google ads, they are paying a hell of alot better than the Clickxchange ads.
https://www.google.com/adsense/
Plus its all text and no worries of popups.

Just an addition to this, if 1/2 the people that visit the board click each link at the top of the page. It will generate more income and we can do away with all of the other ads so its less cluttered. But, it will only happen if people click the links, the bottom banners are all per impression so you dont even need to click on them :)
Thanks,
S
so, if i click on one of the four links in the banner at the top of the page, i make WP some money? What if i click multiple times, am i still generating cash for TL?

No, it tracks per IP per day so you can click a thousand times a day and still make the same I would by 1 click. You can however click each link once so its 4 times as effective.
Thanks,
S

Also, if you use the Google search at the top of the page and click a link from that we will get credit for it as well:)

what if someone has dial-up. And everytime you log in, you get a new IP. Does this mean you can do that for some money? Just wondering, i dont have dialup myself but it would be a pretty cheap but smart way to make money for you guys

This is really out of hand. I get a virus and spyware everytime I come here. It's sad to see that you put $$$$ over members. Do I come here to meet people and discuss, or click ads and give you more money in the pocket?
My computer is messing up because of this crap.
Say what you want about Fred Cook, but at least I could surf IOW.net ad-free.

Woah there. I am looking to see what ad it is that is causing this spyware that you are talking about. I don't get anything even with my pop up stopper off, so I don't see these things. As far as putting money in my pocket, I am not making any money off of this site at all. I am paying $10 a month for server bills and the ads don't even cover that. Anyway, I am checking it out now, and hopefully I will have it figured out within the next half an hour or so, don't worry about it.

Ok, i removed what appeared to be the culprit...hopefully that fixes it. As I have said before, I don't get these pop ups, and the ad companies can change their ads while they are already up, so let me know if they are causing problems.
If the Google thing works out then I am going to ditch the current ad company completely because they aren't that great.

TL, the reason you are not getting the popups is because the ad was probably a reginal targeted ad.
Since you are in CA you are probably seeing differnt ads than I am seeing in TX, but Kdogg might be getting popups since he in in Canada which are targeted at the Canada people. Maybe the advertiser didnt like Canadiens or something?
Anyways ditching altogether would be nice but like you said it all depends on the traffic.
As far as IP changing and clicking, yet teoretically you can do that but thats going to the extreme for the site. helping out by clicking every now and then upto everyday is asking more than enough from members.
Thanks,
S

Trev', I can confirm that you have officially found the best advertisers in the world, ever! These pop-ups are gay. Everytime I try to type, a new one appears. It has taken me 8 minutes to type this one post man! Well, maybe not. But every time I click on a new thread or link or whatever, my screen is filled with the gay things. Try turning off your pop-up stopper for a few minutes and scan the boards like that! I can't take it anymore, I'm leaving!
Anyway, I'm back, but Trev, this isn't going to attract new members. It'll give them a headache, and might even force them into wanting to jump off a bridge or something! Please get it sorted man.

WTF!!!!!
I have a pop-up blocker that blocks most of these ads, but there are so many that my computer gets overloaded and my Internet Explorer crashes. I realize that there are costs involved in running a website, but this is getting ridiculous.
P.S. If you have a chance to meet any one of these advertisers, please kick them square in the nuts compliments of the Main Man. :nutkick:

Did this just start happening today? I haven't changed any ads in over a week, so the advertisers must have changed the code again...I will see what I can do. I am going to be removing them all soon one way or another :)

Yup, it just started today. I was on yesterday for a little bit and didn't have this problem. I just has to reboot my computer again. This is the third time.
I'm getting killed. And I'm at work where they have the good stuff blocking.

Just some FYI it seems to be the ad that is on the top row that is on the right.

Thanks guys. S, it looks like it was actually the one on the left. I am at the school library and have no pop up blocker here and am not getting anything anymore, so hopefully that takes care of the problem. Thanks for your patience.
