Welcome back to The Dogg Pound! It has been ages since I wrote a column. When The Crippler and I started WrestlingIntensity.com, I was only concentrating on getting the forums and main site up. Now that the main site and forums are up and running, I have un-paused column writing and I’m getting back into the trend! I’m also starting a basketball website with Trevor at HalfCourtPress.com. Enough about me, lets get the show on the road.

The last time I wrote a column was the day before Judgment Day. I wrote about how John Bradshaw Layfield wasn’t the right man to face Eddie, or even wrestle in a main event. I wanted Booker T to step up to that challenge and become the heel champion or contender that SmackDown needed all along. And to my dismay, John Bradshaw Layfield beat Eddie Guerrero at The Great American Bash to become the next WWE Champion.

Today’s column won’t be about John Bradshaw Layfield, or the SmackDown brand, it will be about the soon to be star of Raw, The Legend Killer, Randy Orton.

Like him or hate him, Randy Orton is the next big superstar. He passed the test the night he won the Intercontinental Championship at Armageddon. The night that Evolution took all the championships, the person that stood out the most was Randy Orton.

We had a boring Triple H that couldn’t seem to loose the World Title around his waist. The only person he lost it to was a boring and over rated Goldberg. Then we had Batista and Flair who were terrible asset to the Raw tag team division. And then there was Randy Orton.

With the Intercontinental Championship belt around his waist, the WWE has tested Orton to great limits. His ****y, better than life character was well suited with the belt, and the way he put competitors over was amazing. Orton was exactly what the Intercontinental Championship needed to get restored.

Since being handed the ball, Orton has ran with it. Much the way the aforementioned champions stole the show with a classic Intercontinental title match on a pay-per-view, it was Orton who stole the shows. He has already established himself as a force on the mic, and his ring skills are impeccable by putting over superstars as Shelton Benjamin, Edge, and even his hardcore match against Foley at Backlash was amazing.

So how does Orton follow this up? The WWE realized what a great talent Orton is, and they decided to step up his game plan to the big prize, the World Heavyweight Championship belt. This new phase began this past Raw. For one of the two matches of the show, it was a great ending to see not only Jericho and Orton fight it out to the end, but the post match celebration held a lot of meaning.

After the match, Orton made his way back to the Evolution dressing room. In a very happy mood, he celebrates his victory with Batista and Flair. The atmosphere was great until Triple H came in the room. We saw a ****y and a cold Triple H. He has shown Orton a side of himself that he never encountered before. Orton, being in a kind and celebratory mood, he told Triple H that it would be an honor to fight him at Summer Slam. Orton then extended his hand for a handshake and wishes Triple H good luck for the upcoming match. An irate Triple H says he doesn’t need any luck and shakes Orton’s hand.

This change in Orton’s attitude, and the cold attitude of Triple H could mean that these two might be going at it in the near future. This gives us something to look forward to, even after Summer Slam. Triple H always told Orton to never bite the hand that is feeding him, and I think if Orton should win the belt at Summer Slam, Triple H won’t be too pleased with the outcome.

Another hint came during the Triple H/Benoit Iron Man Match. When Evolution came down to the ring to assist Triple H, there was no sign of Orton. Taking these scenarios into consideration, Triple H versus Randy Orton will be a big possibility in the future.

The only loss to this feud will be Chris Benoit. Should Randy Orton clinch the World Championship at Summer Slam, Benoit will be pushed back down to make room for Triple H and Randy Orton headlining Raws and pay per views. I don’t think Benoit should step out of the picture, but he needs to maintain his level. Triple H is a heel to the bone, and this move will make Orton an instant fan favorite.

Should Orton win or loose the Championship at Summer Slam, he is a superstar to take the spot light at anytime. At a time when the WWE needs youngsters to take the main event spotlight from the older guys, Randy Orton is ready, It’s his time!

I hope you enjoyed the column. It has been a while since I wrote one, and as you could see, I’m a little rusty. I enjoy reading feedback, and if you have any comments or suggestions visit the forums or contact me at kdogg@wrestlingintensity.com

Until next time, I hope you have enjoyed this edition of The Dogg Pound!
