NOw we all know that there has been alot of speculation about who will be the new GM of Smackdown!. Stephs name, Shanes name and even Mick Foleys name have been chucked about. But the lastest rumour I read is this.

It appears as Teddy Long will be SmackDown’s next General Manager. Take that for what its worth.

May I just say that he is the BEST candidate. Chazz you would be proven to be a genious if they made Teddy the GM. He would fit the role perfectly and would be a breath of fresh air.

Teddy Long would probably make a good GM, but the problem is how fans would react to it. If he doesn't get over then chances are that his GM reign will go down fast.

I dont think he'd have a problem. He was great as Raw GM for the night and he is natural when it comes to getting crowd reaction.

Horse****! Teddy is a stupid GM and would last less then Kurt.. Teddy Long is a big no no and they better find someone good.. I think we shall find out soon.. perhaps :S Paul Bearer would be better then Teddy haha

Wow. Damn I dunno, how about explaining why he would be a "stupid" GM.

Cause he is black.. lol.. just kidding - I was just going on the whole "Black man held down thing" - I don't think he is enough of a personality to be the GM.. he is a good manager in cases but not someone I would want to see as General Manager over either show.. I feel there are many other WWE personalities that would better suit the position - maybe Shane O'Mac.. he hasn't been GM before and it could be a good move - without taking Steph from HHH on Raw etc..

But he hahe had a big storyline in the wwe, like Onwer of Ecw, give him a chance to show how well he can work.mayby he can last as long then everybody else who failed to be a good GM.

I wouldn't be a fan of this, if of course it happened. Reason is because like someone stated earlier, the whole 'black man being held down' gimmick doesn't fit the GM role. Plus, I would personally like to see a face as the GM of SmackDown. The last two GM's have been heels (Mr. Angle, Paul Heyman), so I think someone like Shane McMahon, or Mick Foley would be a better pick.

But then again, I have yet to see how Mr. Theodore Long does as the GM, so for what I know, he might turn out to be pretty good. But I doubt it. The only good thing I see coming out of this is a Booker T push. Other than that, I really don't see many pluses.

But then again, this is just a rumor, so I wouldn't get to worried about this.

Teddy Long would make a great General Manager of Smackdown. Hopefully this rumor is 100% true.

If Teddy Long is the GM, that does not mean he will have to use his former gimmick. I agree it is not really good for a GM position. Also keep in mind that I think he pretty much started to do away with that gimmick when he was managing Mark Jindrax for that short while. Maybe he could become a face GM as well. I would definitely say he is a possible candidate. However, we can never rule out Shane or Steph.

He hasn't really got over with the fans as an authortative figure, fans have never seen him with that kind of power so it will be a shock for most. I think that he can be good as GM, I have read a lot about him and that he is well-liked backstage and respected on the mic. I am not going to say wether it is a good decision till we actually see him in action.

He was GM of Raw for a night, has everyone forgot about that? On that he was superb and really eased into the role perfectly. Teddy is charismatic and has one of the best looks in the business. He has done away with the black man kept down gimmick and tried something different as Jindraks manager.

Face GMs dont work IMO. A GM should be either heel or neutral. Mick Foley just wouldnt fit into the GM role. The great thing abuot Long, Bischoff and others as GMs is that people dont expect them to get into the ring. Austin, IMO, was poor GM because he made heels look weak. Foley would be a bad GM because people would expect him to step into the ring.

A GM cannot and should not be considered a physical force. If they step into the ring then it has to be for a special occasion. Long has the charisma needed to get Smackdown! over and add something new to the show. They could start up a war of words between him and Bischoff. This would, in turn, hype the PPVs because both GMs would be trying to out do the other. Myself and Chazz did this in our WWE seasons and it has worked a treat.

Long coiuld definately rival Bischoff as a GM. I really hope that he gets the role and is allowed to cut loose.

I actually did forget about that.

Thats true.

But still the top 2 candidates to be the New GM is either Teddy Long or Shane McMahon, but everyone mostly agrees that Long will be the new GM of Smackdown.

This could be a good thing for Smackdown. Teddy Long would fit nicely into the GM role, he has good mic skills, and he certainly won't be getting into the ring to fight or anything like Kurt Angle, or Austin. With Teddy at the helm i am sure Smackdown will go a bit further now.

I also agree with what PK said, face gms don't work, just look at Steph for one comparison, she was taking up too much time on TV and was not good as gm. It just didn't seem right.

Yeah but she looked good doing it. :D

Teddy Long being SmackDown GM sounds like a good idea to me. I hope he stays for a long time because I'm getting sick of seeing GMs come and go on SmackDown.

I think he will be a GM for a long time, and I just hope he stays there for a long time seeing how the WWE writers are having trouble finding a GM in which the fans would love to hate. They did a great job with getting Bischoff and look at him, I believe he's going on two years as the RAW GM.

For ****'s sake, PK, a warning for a potential spoiler would have been nice. Damn.

Here is the thing about Teddy, and this is the reason why in my and PK's season, I chose him as the GM of Smackdown. Teddy has the mic skills and he has the charisma to be a good GM. Eric is good in his role simple because Eric is good at playing bad. Hell, look at how long he has been the Raw GM. He does one hell of a job in his role. Teddy will do the same.

Shane would be popular, but I don't feel he would bring anything to the GM role. Stephanie, while looking great, wore out her welcome. I never really felt she did that great of a job as the GM. Teddy can be a great GM, and he doesn't have to use the "white man hodling him down" gimmick because he will, in fact, be the man. To me, he is the logical and best choice and deserves a shot at it. I really felt that he would be the GM when he got traded to SD and then Heyman was canned as the GM (or when Heyman quit).

And, yes PK, I will look like a genius. :D

Well back to the topic, on the Smackdown spoilers Theodore Long presented himself as a face when he was talking to Booker T. Hopefully he won't be a face because he is much better as a heel and has no experience being a face.

TheMainMan25
07-29-2004, 06:32 PM
The Main Man says "no" to Shane McMahon. Why? Although he has a great ring and microphone presence, he is still the President of Media Relations or something like that. With that title it is simply impossible for him to be a long term GM for Smackdown and the Smackdown brand has has too many short-term GMs so far. Teddy Long would be great. I'd change his gimmick to a kind-of Don King figure. Have him drop the "black man being kept down" gimmick and have him create his own "Fantastic" Smackdown (and have him describe it with a bunch of words that don't exist like Don King).

That's a good idea TMM, have him say **** like, "This is most splendiforous, monumentorous event in the history of the world!"

Thats probably what might happen. But when I read the spoilers it looked like Theodore Long might be a face. But I just have to wait and watch smackdown tonight to see if he will be a face or a heel.
