Given the 2022 tournament was given to Qatar, there were concerns about the temperatures during the usual June/July period usually used for the World Cup. Originally there were talks about air conditioning to combat the heat, but to add to it there has been early mentions of moving the World Cup to the winter instead. Now there is nothing to say they can not do that, but obviously a winter world cup would have massive implications and some managers have already spoken their minds about it, but this is not about them... this is about what you guys think about a potential winter world cup and how it would affect the sport in your area should it go ahead 12 years from now.

So discuss...

One thing I have to ask: Isn't there an African Cup of Nations in the winter of 2022?

Just one of the many reasons why Qatar should never have been given the cup in the first place. Of course it'll screw up domestic competitions in 90% of the world. I just wish that some teams would have the balls to say 'em....thanks....but we don't think we'll try and qualify this time round. Too much hassle if we did qualify'.
Proponents of the winter break in the UK might welcome it but of course, this year's winter break would probably be coming at least a month too late to avoid the worst of the snow. Further complications may include Euro qualifiers starting virtually as soon as the domestic season had finished, the season following being pushed back a couple of weeks and Brooklyn Beckham missing out on his holiday that year (he will of course be on the USA team sheet. England wouldn't be daft enough to pick him.........would they?)
Strange how this possibility wasn't mentioned before the vote. I'm sure that many voters would have thought differently had they known. (sarcasm smiley)

Nope, as of 2013 it's being moved to odd numbered years to avoid clashing with the WC.

Sky sucks, BBC have the same rant including the last 30 seconds or so where he stats this...

"I'm going to go home and tell my turkeys, 'It's not Christmas, we're moving it - it's all right, you've got some respite! I've had a word with Fifa and we're going to move Christmas, it's no problem'."

Playing a WC in the winter will benefit most Western European teams, as they'll be halfway through their season - whilst teams from South America, Scandanavia and Russia will have just finished theirs. In other words, you can rule out Columbia, Bolivia and Venezuela for two reasons...

Update time on this matter

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9360977.stm

Basically, Asian football chief Mohamed Bin Hammam has ruled out moving the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from summer to winter or sharing matches around the Gulf region.
Both of which FIFA suggested as inital changes, the biggest joke being that they (FIFA) had the audacity to suggest the WC become hosted by the gulf instead of winners Qatar, thus taking a large dump all over Australia, USA and the other bids.

Blatter says something even more retarded than his previous one each time he opens his mouth to speak.

Compare and contrast how Quatar and England courted the vote of Thailand...

Quatar: Built a footballing academy in Thailand, to go with the ones they also have in Senegal, Indonesia and Guatemala, which are backed by Unicef and Nike
England: Offered to play Thailand in a friendly - and offer swiftly withdrawn the moment Thailand voted for Quatar

Or, to put it another way...
Quatar: Helping improve the basic skills fo youngsters in your country
England: Expect you to fly halfway around the world, get tonked 8-0, then fly all the way back
