WWE SMACKDOWN
FROM PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
WACHOVIA CENTER
JULY 22, 2004
The road to SummerSlam heads through Philadelphia this week, as Smackdown comes to you from the Wachovia Center. Here is the card for this weeks show.
Match#1
One-on-one encounter
Mark Jindrak vs. Billy Gunn
Jindrak and Gunn have developed a little rivalry between them, but it is a rivalry with bitterness and hate. Gunn has been on Teddy Long's hit list, but Jindrak is Long's "Golden Boy". Now, for the frist time ever, the two will meet one-on-one.
Match#2
Cruiserweight tournament (Loser's bracket)
Funaki vs. Nunzio
This week's only Cruiserweight tournament match is one for survival. Both Funaki and Nunzio have one loss each, and another one means elimination from the tournament. Funaki had an impressive win over Akio last week. Nunzio advanced due to Long's decision in regards to his match last week with Scotty. Brian Christopher interfered and hit Nunzio with the chair. But, BC also hit Scotty and the ref. Long looked over all the evidence and concluded that Nunzio was the winner. Now, both men will fight for ther survival.
Match#3
First Main-Event
One-on-one encounter
Renee Dupree vs. Rob Van Dam
There first encounter was legendary. Tonight, is the second encounter between these two men who have grown to despise one another. Renee wants to prove he is the future of Smackdown. RVD wants to show that he deserves to be a main eventer. Both men will get there chance on Smackdown, in what should be a classic.
Match#4
Special challenge match for Scotty
Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Matt Morgan
Teddy Long gave Scotty an option of making the Cruiserweight title match for SummerSlam a triple threat, if Scotty can win three matches in a row starting this week. Scotty has a tall order, because he will be facing the "Enforcer" of Team Heyman, Matt Morgan. Morgan is a beast and will no doubt be looking to cripple the cruiserweight. Can Scotty survive and make it to his next match?
Match#5
One-on-One Encounter
Hardcore Holly vs. Rey Mysterio
This is another feud that has developed since The Great American Bash. Holly feels that Rey cost him his shot for the US title, and has been looking to get at Rey ever since. Rey is trying to make his case as a contender for the US title, but now has to deal with Holly before he can begin to think about Chavo Guererro. This one will be intense.
Match#6
Second Main Event
Buried Alive Match
John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Undertaker
Undertaker asked for this match, and to everyone's surprise, JBL accepted. Now, JBL will have to fight The Deadman and avoid being buried alive. JBL says he has something to prove, but perhaps JBL has bitten off more than he can chew. Undertaker wants to simply torture JBL, and odds are that he will do it again come this Thursday. Can JBL survive and bury Taker alive? Or will we see the end of John Bradshaw Layfield?
OTHER NOTES:
Booker T shocked the world last week when he cleanly pinned Eddie Guererro and became the new...........WWE Champion. This week, GM Teddy Long has planned a celebration for Booker. What will the champ have to say? Tune in and see.
Eddie Guererro will be in Philadelphia, and will no doubt have something to say to Booker T. Eddie does have a re-match in his contract. What Eddie does about it remains to be seen. With Eddie, you never know what to expect.
John Cena and Kurt Angle will now meet at SummerSlam in a Last Man Standing match. Simply put, these two men hate each other with a passion and since both men will be in Philadelphia this Thursday, anything can happen.
Rico and Haas made it clear to Paul Heyman that they were coming after the Dudley boyz and their tag team titles. Bubba and Dvon have promised to do something about Rico and Haas. Could something happen in Philly? Tune in and see.
