WWE RAW Results (4/5) - Two Big Returns; & Lots More!
April 5, 2004, Aired on Spike TV
Live from Houston, Texas (Toyota Center)
Report by Kevin Gregg (FOX Sports) of PowerWrestling.com
Raw is live tonight from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
WWE RAW Opener:
WWE RAW opened up with a video package highlighting last weeks show when Shelton Benjamin pulled off the biggest win of his career by defeating Triple H right in the middle of the ring!
Location: Houston, Texas
In The Arena:
The music of Triple H hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring and he can't be in a good mood after Shelton Benjamin's upset last week on RAW. Triple H got on the mic and said that it makes for an amazing story, this young punk kid comes over from Smackdown! in the draft, and in his first match live on RAW, this young punk kid gets a lucky break of a lifetime. He gets in the ring with the greatest professional wrestler alive today and he wins. He does the impossible, he gets his hand raised, its a great story but the fact is this is reality and it was nothing but a fluke, a fluke that could not happen again in a million years. Triple H then said that Chris Benoit walking out of Backlash with the World Championship will not happen in a million years either as the fans chanted "you tapped out" at Triple H. The rematch of all time, the final encounter, Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels and The Game, Triple Threat Rematch for the Championship and Triple H says that he thinks Benoit is feeling the pressure of being champion and he find himself in the same position that Triple H was in at WrestleMania, he doesn't even have to be beaten to lose the championship. The odds of him winning the Triple Threat Match in the first place were huge, the odds of winning two of those matches back to back are astronomical and the odds of winning two of these matches back to back with the Game in it are impossible. The music of Shelton Benjamin then hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring looking confident and had a huge smile on his face. Shelton got on the mic and said he wanted to come out here and introduce himself, I'm that young punk kid from Smackdown! Doesn't ring a bell? I'm the guy that beat you just last week, one, two, three! Shelton says that Triple H thinks his victory was a fluke? Maybe it was? But I can't live with that on my conscience so I want to challenge for a rematch right here in Houston, Texas! Triple H laughed and said he is getting way ahead of himself. You think you have one lucky moment and you think you can walk out here and stand in the same ring as the Game? You think you have the right to challenge me to a match? You want a match right here tonight? No. Triple H said he's doing him a favor and he can build an entire career on the fact that Shelton got lucky enough to beat the Game, because nobody beats Triple H. Shelton said that he doesn't have a chance in hell at beating Triple H? I know how it must feel to be you to get beaten twice by a young punk kid. Triple H then agreed to the match, right here tonight, in this very ring, its going to be the greatest wrestler alive today, The Game, Triple H against whatever you're name is. Shelton said he isn't upset that Triple H can't remember his name because after tonight you can call me "Mr. Benjamin"!
Video Package:
A video package aired highlighting the RAW Brand visit to Monterrey, Mexico over the weekend.
Referee: Johnny Nitro
Chris Benoit vs. Rob Conway
The music of Chris Benoit hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring for this opening match on RAW against Rob Conway who was accompanied by Sylvan Grenier! Consider it done. Regal said he will make the boy a star and said he really appreciates this.

Interview:
Mick Foley was shown with a yellow rose and a box and he said that its been said many times that you never forget your first, and Foley thinks thats true. He said said that he has never forgotten his first, his first flannel shirt. Foley said he loves his flannel shirts, and that may sound odd that a hardcore legend would say that but hardcore doesn't always mean what you think. It means that Foley loves the business and loves the fans so much that he is willing to take that pain. He said he went to Japan to compete in some barbaric matches but he had love in mind. He always did everything for love, he swore that he would never go back and watch those matches again but he went back and looked at the tapes and said he did barbaric things and inhumane things. He said that he watched them back and it was the look in his eyes that said deep down didn't mind inflicting that damage and maybe deep down he really liked it. Maybe, just maybe, deep down he really loved it. These were honorable men, nice men, they didn't spit in his face and didn't do to him what Orton has done but when he had the chance he wrapped them in barbwire and ripped them apart. So what can Orton expect? He is going to kick his ass all over Edmonton, no wait, it needs to be a little more descriptive than that, Foley then opened the box and pulled out a baseball box wrapped in barbwire and said he is going to bring on the type of bleeding expected from special effects teams. Orton then started bashing up the set with the bat and said he is going to rip, tear and gorge Orton apart at Backlash and he is going to love it. Orton was then shown looking on a monitor and looked worried but Ric Flair said Foley is out of his mind anyway. Triple H walked in a said it's time to take care of that punk kid right now, meaning Shelton Benjamin and that match is next!
The music of Ric Flair was playing in the arena and he is in the middle of the ring and he will be the special ring announcer for this next match! Flair said that he wants to make something clear, and that earlier this evening Bischoff said anyone that gets involved in this match who is not in official business is done. He then introduced the official time keeper for this match and its none other than Batista. Ric Flair then introduced the official trainer for this match, as Randy Orton made his way out to the arena.
Referee: Earl Hebner

The music of Gail Kim then hit and she is making her return from injury right here tonight!

In The Arena:
The music of the Coach hit in the arena as he made his way out to join Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler. He said he is out here for a reason and said that last week he was a victim of an attack. Footage then aired of Tajiri spitting the green mist into the face of the Coach.
Referee: Chad Patton
Tajiri vs. Christian

I think the pairing of Trish and Christian is getting old quick. It's good to see Matt Hardy back on Raw, he and Jericho put on a good match; however, I'm not looking forward to Jericho vs. Christian and Trish! Why the hell is Lita getting a shot at the women's title? Did she get her head shaved? I don't think so!
Rhyno loses to Kane, but didn't get overpowered too often; Benjamin wins another match, although it wasn't as good as last weeks. Edge takes it to Kane once again and Regal is back, woo hoo!! The Coach scares me...literally! Tajiri loses to Christian, why is this happening? Why is Tajiri on Raw? I hope he's not replacing Spike Dudley as the Raw whipping boy! Foley and his barbwired bat was fun and the main event was nothing special. Raw will be in Chicago next week, my friend got tickets, but I won't be able to go with her like I had hoped. I've seen Raw live in Chicago 3 times and I had a great time!
Raw was nothing special tonight, it progressed storylines, but other than that not a specatular Raw. 7 out of 10.

I think they might have a triple threat match with Molly,Lita and Victoria
And I think Trish and Christian are boring. :(

ok, i think im thinking of another dismore...or this is the lame storyline he has gotten...
thanks for doing the results for me this week!
No problem Cena316
and JC, the Dinsmore you are thinking of is Nick Dinsmore?... if so they are one in the same
And did anyone else notice, La Resistance is no longer carrying the French flag?
I do believe they are carrying a Quebec Flag(I think), and the King and JR said that they were French Canadians not From France
The Kid
04-06-2004, 07:37 PM
Yeah at least 3 wrestlers changed their hometowns last night. Jericho is now from New York, Gail Kim is now from Korea, and La Resistance is now from Quebec. I wonder if the WWE is making a conscise effort to piss off Canadian fans because now according to the WWE only heels are from Canada. Gee, wonder if they think that we're an inferior culture. Not enough to kill one of our greatest wrestlers is it Vince?
Cena316
04-06-2004, 07:52 PM
well i dont think WWE is dissing canada...i mean they are having a PPV there this month...I just think that they are trying to change things a little bit...
The Kid
04-06-2004, 08:03 PM
Yeah you're probably right but it seems to be quite a coincidence that all of the wrestlers announced from Canada are heels. At Backlash if Edge is announced from Toronto I might be being paranoid. But if he's announced from Florida or something then I really got to wonder.

On the final RAW before Backlash, Shawn Michaels displayed just how quickly he can end the upcoming Final Encounter Triple Threat Match and become the World Heavyweight Champion. During the chaos that ensued when every member of the Eight Man Tag Team Match between Evolution and Michaels, Chris Benoit, Mick Foley and Shelton Benjamin were involved at one time, Michaels suddenly landed Sweet Chin Music on Randy Orton and won the match for his team. Michaels now seems to have the momentum heading into Backlash when the biggest prize in sports entertainment is on the line.
The upcoming pay-per-view event was a hot topic on RAW as several matches were added, and many of the existing matches saw new developments. Shelton Benjamin will have his latest opportunity to prove just how far he has come. At Backlash, on the heels of his two consecutive victories over Triple H, Benjamin will now have the opportunity against perhaps the greatest to ever enter the ring when he faces Ric Flair at Backlash. And on RAW, Benjamin showed that he is not afraid of Flair when he attacked the Nature Boy just seconds after the match was set.
Also, Tajiri will face Jonathan Coachman after defeating a “five-star ninja” (who turned out to be Al Snow) to earn the match with Coachman.
RAW also saw an escalation of hostilities between Chris Jericho and his Backlash opponents, Christian and Trish Stratus. While Stratus faced Lita in singles action, both Jericho and Christian entered the fray and Jericho suddenly found himself on the receiving end of a vicious assault from both Stratus and Christian. Stratus showed that she has everything it takes to injure Jericho – offering several kicks and slaps as proof that she is not afraid to get in the mix at Backlash. Will Jericho have something up his sleeve for this Handicap Match? Find out at Backlash.
Speaking of escalations, just when it seemed that the tension between Mick Foley and Randy Orton could not be escalated any further, Foley took to the ring to announce that it will in fact be Cactus Jack to meet Randy Orton at Backlash. The Hardcore Legend said that Mick Foley may be too caring about the welfare of an individual such as Orton, but Cactus Jack certainly does not care and will inflict the devastating punishment on Orton that Foley seeks. Therefore, Cactus Jack will get the call at the pay-per-view event.
RAW comes to you next week from Calgary less than 24 hours after the Backlash pay-per-view event. Who will win the Final Encounter Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship? Will Cactus Jack inflict the harm on Randy Orton that was predicted by Mick Foley? What else will Backlash bring to the RAW landscape? Only one way to find out … watch Backlash exclusively on pay-per-view on Sunday night at 8/7 CT, and then watch RAW next Monday night at 9/8 CT on Spike TV!
Match Results:
Kane defeated Grandmaster Sexay
Tajiri defeated Al Snow
Lita defeated Trish Stratus via disqualification
The Hurricane defeated Sylvain Grenier
Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin and Mick Foley defeated Evolution
