WWE SMACKDOWN
FROM PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND
DUNKIN DONUTS CENTER
JULY 15, 2004

A video promo runs with "My Sacrifice" by Creed playing. It is a video highlighting the rivalry between Eddie Giererro and Booker T. We clips from their last encounter at The Great American Bash, where Eddie hit the Frog Splash to retain his WWE Championship. The song comes to an end and then a message pops up on the screen reading, "Eddie Guererro vs. Booker T for the WWE Championship........Tonight!". Fans let out a huge pop after seeing the message.

Opening video rolls and the Smackdown theme music hits the PA as Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to another edition of Smackdown, live from Porvidence, Rhode Island. Cole and Tazz immediately hype the main event for tonight, with Tazz saying that we could crown a new, WWE Champion right here in Providence. Tazz and Cole are excited about the main event. They also talk about the Cruiserweight tournament, which is in full swing. Tazz reminds us all that the winner becomes the #1 contender for the Cruiserweight title. They talk about Kurt Angle and JBL, as both men accepted challenges from there respective adversaries, John Cena and The Undertaker.

Teddy Long's music hits and out walks the General Manager of Smackdown, with the beautiful and freakin hot Dawn Marie. Crowd levels the two with a ton of heat, but both Teddy and Dawn are all smiles. Teddy has a mic in hand as he gets into the ring and prepars to address the public. Teddy says that he is excited about tonight........because tonight Providence is gonna get a real treat..............as Eddie Guererro will defend his WWE Championship against Booker T. Fans pop for this. Teddy says that Smackdown is showing why it is the number one show for the WWE............and for all of wrestling. Teddy brings up the fact that the Cruiserweight tournament is in full swing, and judging by the fans response...........it is a hit! Teddy says you won't see the Cruiser's on Raw..............Teddy Long, not Eric Bischoff..........has the Cruiser's. Which brings Teddy to SummerSlam. Teddy says that Eric has really become desperate, because this past Monday night, Eric signed a match between HHH and Bret Hart. Now.............Teddy says that Eric is trying to salvage his show by using his old tricks again. See, Teddy says that when Eric ran WCW, Eric brought in established superstars who were past there prime. Eric payed these guys big money, and in return............well.........we all know what happened. Now, Eric has decided to bring in Bret Hart........a man who had to leave wrestling because of a concussion..............a man who has not seen action inside a ring for quite some time............to wrestle a guy who is starting to age and is a shell of his former self............HHH. Wow! Is that the best you can do Eric? Folks, tonight..............for free..........I'm giving you a WWE Championship match! Next week.............for free...........I'm giving you a Buried Alive match! For SummerSlam, I have already signed a career vs. career match. Teddy Long has shown that he is going to lead the way and that Smackdown...........not Raw...........is the "flagship" of the WWE.

RVD's music hits and the fans explode out of there seats as "Mr. Thursday Night" walks out to a thunderous pop. He has stitches in his forehead from the beating he took last week at the hands of Matt Morgan. He walks down to the ring and calls for a mic. An "RVD" chant breaks out. Rob says that since Teddy is making matches, Rob wants Teddy to give him a match against Renee Dupree. Rob says that he wanted Morgan, but he knows that Morgan is just the "muscle" for Team Heyman. Dupree is the one he wants. Teddy says that Rob is a funny guy. First of all, RVD interrupts Teddy, and then RVD comes out here and demands a match? Teddy says Rob is smoking too much pot or something, because Teddy Long does not answer to anyone's demands. Rob says that the fans want to see this match happen, and the fans pop huge after he says this. Rob thought that Long was all about giving the people the matches they want to see. Maybe Rob was wrong. Teddy now is caught, and he knows it. Teddy asks the fans if they would want to see RVD vs. Renee Dupree? The fans pop even louder in a resounding "Yes!". Teddy says alright...........next week.............it will be RVD vs....................

Team Heyman's music hits and out walks Paul Heyman and Renee Dupree, and Paul has a mic in hand. Paul says that GM Long needs to not make this match, as Dupree is still healing from there battle at the Bash. Long says that the fans want it, so he is gonna give it to them. Long then adds that this is also a message to Eric Bischoff, in that Smackdown is the superiior brand. Paul says he understands that, but Dupree is not healthy. RVD jumps in and says that Dupree just doesn't want to get his ass kicked again by Rob....Van........Dam! Dupree grabs the mic and says that he will not be talked to like that. Dupree yells at Long that the match is accepted by him and that he will beat the hell out of RVD next week. Dupree storms off the stage with Heyman following. Rob smiles at Long and exits the ring. Long ends the segment by telling the fans that tonight will be a night to remember.

COMMERCIAL BREAK.

We come back as Paul Heyman and Renee Dupree are in there dressing room. Paul wants to know what is wrong with Dupree? Renee says that he will not be talked to like that and that he isn't afraid of RVD. Paul says that he was only looking out for Renee. Dupree says he knows, but he had to accept the challenge or else everyone would think him a coward. Dupree says that he will show the wrold that he is for real, and that RVD made a huge mistake! Renee walks out as Paul starts to smile. "Now.......you are beginning to understand." he says to himself.

Match#1

Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Nunzio

Brian Christopher makes his way out as he will join Tazz and Cole and do guest commentary. Scotty comes out and immediately acknowledges BC. Brian acts like he doesn't see Scotty, and continues talking with Tazz and Cole. Action starts as both tie up, and trade various technical moves with neither man gaining the advantage. They tie up again, and Scotty gets Nunzio in an armbar. Nunzio quickly rolls out of it and reverses the hold. Scotty flips out of it and again locks the hold on. Nunzio takes Scotty down with the armdrag takedown and assumes control of the match. Nunzio tightems his grip on Scotty's arm, but Scotty manages to punch out of the hold. He whips Nunzio into the ropes, and Nunzio takes Scotty down with a body block. Snap suplex followed by a bulldog and Nunzio covers for a two count. Nunzio hits a fireman's carry and goes up top for a leg drop, but Scotty moves sending Nunzio down to the mat. Nunzio taunts that it is over, but Brian Christopher comes in the ring with a steel chair. He looks at Scotty and then at Nunzio and smiles. BC then swings the chair and nails Nunzio with it. The ref starts to protest, but Christopher turns and nails the ref with a chair shot. Scotty starts to get up, only to get greeted with a chair shot to the skull. Christopher raises his arms over his head as the crowd showers the ring with heat. Christopher calls for a mic and gets one. BC says that this is to show all the rest of the cruiser's that Brian Christopher is the best damn Cruiserweight in the business, and that there aint nobody in the back or in the world who can beat him. He drops the mic and then...............................Jerry Lynn's music hits and he walks out to a very good pop. Lynn has a mic of his own. Lynn says that Christopher may very well be the champ now............but by the end of this tournament.............Jerry Lynn will emerge as the number one contender, and he will go to SummerSlam and beat the hell out of BC. Lynn tells Christopher to not interfere with his match, because if he does, then Lynn will kick his ass all over Providence. Christopher asks who Lynn is? BC says that he has never heard of him, and that there is no way some second rate jobber will win this tournament. Lynn tells BC that he had better get to know him, cause Lynn is coming for him. Lynn drops the mic and runs down to the ring. He slides in and he and Christopher start trading punches. Lynn takes the advantage and whips BC into the ropes and nails him with a clothesline. Lynn then gets set for his finisher, but BC ducks out of the ring and heads up the ramp. Lynn stares him down as BC walks away talking smack.
Winner: No Contest.

Cole and Tazz wonder what GM Teddy Long will do because there wasn't an official winner of the contest.

We go to the back as Chavo Guererro is in his dressing room admiring his US title. Eddie Guererro walks in and Chavo looks like he is ready to fight, but Eddie tells Chavo he isn't here to fight. Eddie says that he came in here to tell Chavo that he is proud of what Chavo did. Chavo became the US Champion, and he beat two men to earn it. Eddie says that even though he and Chavo are at odds with one another, that doesn't mean that he isn't proud of him. Eddie sticks out his hand, and Chavo shakes it. Eddie goes to turn and Chavo pulls him back and tells his Uncle thanks! Eddie seems shocked by it but tells Chavo he is welcome. Chavo wishes Eddie luck tonight, and Eddie does the same.

Teddy Long is in his office as a knock is heard on his door. It is a tech guy with a video tape. Long thanks the tech guy, and then Dawn asks what the tape is. Teddy says it is a tape of the Scotty/Nunzio match. Teddy says he is going to watch it and see who should claim the win. Dawn asks why Teddy just doesn't have them fight next week. Teddy says that that isn't fair to the others in the tournament, so a winner must be found. Teddy will look at all the evidence and make his decision later.

COMMERCIAL BREAK.

Rikishi catches up with Scotty in the back, and Kish tells him what Long is doing. Scotty can't believe that his tournament survival will come down to Teddy. Kish tells Scotty what Lynn did to Christopher, and that brings a smile to his face.

Moore takes the early advantage on London by hitting some nice high-flying moves. Moore goes up top for a flying clothesline, but London connects with a dropkick, beautifully planted on Moore's face. JBL's music hits, and out walks the man who next week will face Undertaker in a Buried Alive match. JBL walks to the ring tonight, and has a mic in hand. The fans boo the Texan, and a "Bradshaw Suck's" chant starts up. JBL says that all week long, people have been telling him that he is crazy. Crazy for starting a feud with a guy like The Undertaker. Crazy for punking Taker out. Crazy for fighting him. And......even more crazier............accepting Taker's challenge for a Buried Alive match. Well, I don't look at it that way. See, JBL was put in a casket at The Great American Bash, and JBL says that that moment feuled him to hate Taker so much, that he was willing to do whatever it took to get his hands on Taker. So, JBL is gonna come to Smackdown next week, and he will beat Taker in a match that Taker himself has asked for. JBL reminds us that the last time Taker fought in a Buried Alive match, he lost it to Vince McMahon. So, JBL thinks that Taker to look at his track record recently in Buried Alive matches, because JBL has and it aint so good for Taker.

BONG!...........................BONG!............. ...........and The Undertaker is shown on the Titantron as the fans go nuts. Taker is standing in a graveyard next to a dug up plot, with a shovel in hand. Taker says that he wants JBL to see what awaits him come next week, when he buries JBL alive! Taker starts to shovel some dirt in, and a camera from inside the plot shows us a view of what it will be like. JBL looks a little frightened as Taker stops shoveling and smiles at the camera. He tells JBL that yes, he does know what it feels like to be buried alive............but JBL doesn't! When the dirt falls, and you start to suffocate..............you realize that the end is near. Of course, Vince, Kane and Stone Cold all thought that to.............but the Deadman can't die! But.....JBL can! Taker starts shoveling some more dirt and JBL gets out of the ring and heads up the ramp. He looks up at the Titantron to see the dirt falling in the plot and his face is white as a ghost.

He starts to say something else, but stops. The camera pans out and Charlie Haas and Rico walk into view. Jackie says that she told them that Paul would do more for than they could, and that now she is THE diva in the WWE. Rico thinks a minute and says that he wonders what Jackie had to do in order for Paul to help her. Paul is offended by this, but Rico grabs him and tells him to shut-up. Rico looks at Jackie and tells her that at least he and Charlie respected her. Rico says that he wouldn't be surprised if the rest of Team Heyman was running a train on her. Jackie is hurt and offended, but Rico doesn't stop there. He tells her that he and Charlie were gentlemen to her.....but not anymore. He tells her and Heyman to inform The Dudley's that they are coming for them. He let's go of Heyman and stares a hole through Jackie. Opening segment: This was ****ing great stuff. I loved how you used wCw anf the ages of Bret Hart and Triple H. Great way to start the show off and you have given me some great ideas for next week. Using the fans was a master stroke as well because it can show us that Teddy can be manipulated. RVD/Dupree was a good bonus to an outstanding opener.

Lynn/BC: Very nicely handled. Having Brian break up the match up was good and Long making a judgement added to it as well.

Taker/JBL: Very clever way to hype the match. Taker in the graveyard was inovative. Solid segment and I cant wait for next week.

Teddy/Kurt: The private conversation was a good idea and added to the angle.

Kurt/Cena: Good bye stip and hello a much better ****ing stip. Last Man Standing is a great freakin decision and I cant wait for that match. The segment between these two was as strong as the Teddy Long one. Didnt like hw the fight started though, looked soprt of staged. Great segment overall.

Misses:

Chavo vs Rikishi: Wasnt feeling the match. They just dont mesh well and the match would have been a poor one to watch on TV.

Interference: We saw interference this week in the Lynn match after Teddy made his announcement. That was a bad call because it chips away at Teddys cred.

I'll wait till the main event to rate.

The interference stuff will be addressed next week, and trust me, it is in the storylines for the tournament.

I wanted to get the hype going for SummerSlam, and I wanted Teddy to look strong tonight, which I think I did. Teddy is actually a bit of a tweener at times, mostly because he wants Smackdown to be number one, which means that sometimes he has to do what the fans want.

I felt really good about the show tonight, mostly because I have feuds going on that I like. Even the minor ones like Jindrak/Gunn I enjoy because they have a purpose.

Yeah, I had a hard time writing the Chavo/Rikishi match, but next week Chavo will find himself being challenged by a worthy adversary.

Hit:

Eddie/Booker T was an outstanding match up. Both men got over and Booker T looks like a true WWE champion. Eddie lost nothing from losing the match up, he still got over.

Miss:

No interaction between the Duds and the FBI. I think something small would have been good to keep this feud ticking over.

The more I think about it the more I feel that Matt Morgan could have caused a bit more destruction this week. I think you could use Morgan as Paul E's personal bodyguard rather then just muscle, wherever Paul goes Matt follows. The Powerbombs to London and Moore just arent enough to put them in the hospital.

Great great show Chazz. This one was off the charts with some solid segments throughout. Nothing much can be taken away from this show. Everything was good and your build up to SummerSlam has been great. 8/10 is the only mark I can give this show. There were really no faults to the show and the segments were very solid. Certain things prevented the 9 from coming up. Angle and Cenas fight looked staged and took away from the segment. I felt the interference should have been dealt with straight away on the show. Morgan could have been a little bit more vicous.

Great show Chazz.

In regards to Morgan, I think you have a point about him being more destructive. Right now, I am using Morgan in a feud with Moore. Kind of giving the David vs. Goliath theme. I know it has been done, but in all honesty, the result will surprise you.

Booker vs. Eddie: I wanted Booker to win cleanly, but at the same time make Eddie look like he is still a main eventer. I hate it when the WWE will use interference in title matches, because the way they do it is an everyday occurance. I felt Booker needed to beat Eddie straight up, and even though he is a heel, I still wanted to show his emotions. I really spent a lot of time writing this match, because of the hype I generated for it. It looks as if that paid off, so I am glad to see that.
