Once again ladies and gentlemen, I bring you….
TER’s Feud of the Week!
John Cena vs. Kurt Angle
After last week’s RAW feud I decided it would be a good time to head to Smackdown! This week takes us to Smackdown’s hottest rivalry (at least in my opinion) John Cena and Kurt Angle.
Now the latest turnout in the intense rivalry turned out with Kurt Angle stripping the US Championship off of John Cena. You can bet there will be more on tonight’s edition of Smackdown! But until then let’s take a look at how the rivalry between these two has evolved.
As most will have forgotten, this storyline may have first started all the way back in 2002. Most won’t believe me but if you will remember John Cena’s debut match, it was none other than Kurt Angle. Though Cena would end up losing the match, it was nothing short of an extraordinary showcase of the upcoming rookie’s skills. Over a year later Smackdown’s worst show in lord knows how long, No Mercy, put these two in the ring again. This time however a complete role-reversal was in order. Cena came into the arena to a flurry of boos and Kurt Angle once again pulled the victory out of his tights. The two would run into each other again in the 10 man Survivor Series tag match in which the two were partners. However just a month after the No Mercy encounter, it was Cena gathering the cheers from the crowd. After winning the tag match each went on to new things. Kurt Angle found himself in a feud with new WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero and Cena against US Champion Big Show. Both matches were set for Wrestlemania XX. Only one would emerge with the title.
Cena emerged the following Smackdown! with gold around his waist. Cena had cheated Show and Angle had been cheated by Guerrero. Weeks later Angle was “injured” by ironically enough, Big Show. As new General Manager, Angle set out to make Cena’s life a living hell and finally succeeded this past week on Smackdown!
So with rumors circulating of a Kurt Angle return at Summerslam, I pose the question of, in a Cena/Angle encounter, who wins round three. Well, I just know someone will disagree with me, but it has to be Cena. More than ever Smackdown! needs main-eventers and Cena is on the way to superstardom. Angle has nothing to gain by beating Cena a third time. It seems obvious that Cena is the future of Smackdown! and the only way to do that is to get through Kurt Angle.
Final Diagnosis
John Cena
Thank you for joining me for the 2nd edition of TER’s FOTW. Come back next week for Evolution vs. RAW.
You have just been edjumacated.
