WWE SMACKDOWN
FROM PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND
DUNKIN DONUTS CENTER

The road to SummerSlam has begun, as Smackdown comes to you live from Providence, Rhode Island. Here are the confirmed matches for the card.

Match#1
Cruiserweight title tournament (loser's bracket)
Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Nunzio

Both men lost there respective matches last week, due to interference. Scotty lost to Jerry Lynn when Brian Christopher distracted Scotty, which gave Lynn the opportunity to nail his finisher to pick up the win. Nunzio lost due to the Dudley Boys coming to the ring and 3Ding him as the ref was knocked down. Now, both men are fighting for survival, as the loser of this match will be eliminated from the tournament.

Match#2
Cruiserweight title match (winner's bracket)
Shannon Moore vs. Paul London

Both men had impressive wins last week, but one man will take a loss after this match. London has been on a roll as of late, and has momentum. Moore has alot on his plate, as he has angered the "Enforcer" of Team Heyman, Matt Morgan. Can Moore keep his focus on this match? Can London keep his momentum? Tune in and see.

Match#3
United States Championship match
Chavo Guererro(c) vs. Rikishi

Chavo Guererro will make his second US title defense this week, as he faces a big foe in Rikishi. Kish is on GM Teddy Long's hit list of talent who need to impress him to keep there job. Long has created his "Opportunity Knocks" campaign, and is giving wrestlers a chance to prove there worth to him and Smackdown. But, Kish also is dealing with the heel turn of Brian Christopher, his former friend an ally. Can Kish seize this huge opportunity? Can Chavo defeat the bigger and stronger man to keep his title? Find out this Thursday.

Match#4
Cruiserweight title tournament (Loser's braket)
Funaki vs. Akio

Both men are fighting elimination, and only one will survive. Funaki has been a figure head in the WWE for a few years now, but has never proven himself to be a considerable asset. Akio is the new kid and a win over Funaki will do him wonders. Both men have something to prove, but one will fall.

Match#5
Cruiserweight title tournament (Winner's bracket)
Jerry Lynn vs. Sakoda

For the past week, many in the lockerroom have questioned GM Long for putting Sakoda in the tournament, as many feel he is over the weight limit. But Long has stated that Sakoda deserves a chance and is within the weight limit to compete. Lynn has been impressive since returning to the WWE, and he looks to continue his winning streak this week.

Match#6
Main Event
WWE Championship
Eddie Guererro(c) vs. Booker T

A huge match that will happen on television, as the WWE Champion Eddie Guererro defends his title against Booker T, in a rematch from the Great American Bash. There is no love lost between these two, and this one promises to be a good one. GM Long has already predicted that Booker T will win this match and the title. Can Booker do it? Or will Eddie once again prove that he is a great champion?

OTHER NOTES:

John Bradshaw Layfield accepted Undertaker's challenge for a Buried Alive match, which will be next week's main event. Both men are scheduled to be in Providence, so anything can go down between these two.

Kurt Angle also accepted a challenge. John Cena challenged Kurt Angle in a career vs. career match at SummerSlam. Angle now has the opportunity to rid Smackdown of Cena, as he was given this mission from GM Teddy Long. Cena has grown tired of Long and Angle, and wants to rid Smackdown of there presence. Both men will be in Providence, so anything can happen.

Speaking of Long, word has it he was none too pleased with GM of Raw, Eric Bischoff's, announcement of a Barbed Wire match that will happen on Raw. Long has been thinking of ways to try and one-up his competition. Will he have a response?

Rey Mysterio and Hardcore Holly are at odds, as we have seen a more vengeful side to the former Cruiserweight champion. Holly wants Mysterio's blood, because Holly blames Rey for costing him his shot at the US title. GM Long has leaked word out that he will have an announcement regarding this rivalry this Thursday. What that means is anybody's guess.

Mark Jindrak and Billy Gunn have been at odds for quite some time now, but because Jindrak is Long's "Golden Boy", the two have not met one-on-one. Gunn is also a man who Long wants rid of, as Long feels that Gunn's best days are behind him. Gunn has shown he still has what it takes to be an asset for the Smackdown brand. Both men will be in Providence, so anything can happen.

Also, Paul Heyman will have an announcement in regards to Miss Jackie, and rumor has it that she may have landed a deal for a spread in Playboy. Miss Jackie is becoming THE Smackdown diva. The Dudley Boys will also be in Providence, and we now know that next week, they will defend their WWE Tag Team titles against Rico & Charlie Haas, in a rematch from the Bash. But The FBI are also in the mix, and are out to get the tag champs.
