I watched the show last year mainly because Cheryl Cole came in to it (and Holly Willoughby for Xtra Factor) and they are like hot and stuff. Last year wasn't that great though. But Cheryl and Holly were still hot so yay.

Anyway, the series started up again tonight so I thought I might aswell make a thread to discuss it. For those who don't know, the show now works a little differently with the auditions being in front of a live audience now. These aren't the finals or anything, still just the auditions.

I guess my favourite auditionee was probably Danyl Johnson. Singing wise, he was pretty damn good but what got my attention was how entertaining he was. Seriously, probably the single greatest entertainer I've ever seen on one of these kind of shows. Loved the guy, he was brilliant.

Just wait, he tears it up after a couple of seconds.

Even Simon Cowell said this was the best first audition he has ever seen and I, for one, agree on that. Brilliant.

Anyone else catch the show?

Just watched Xtra Factor, I swear that show is like the best damn thing on TV. Hillariously fun.

I missed it through being at work but was on my break when Danyl Johnson was on and wow, holy shit is that guy good, like seriously. If he doesn't make at least the semi-final then there is something wrong with the world.

I have still to watch the rest of the show and the Xtra-Factor but I am very much looking forward to seeing Holly Wilohby on TV again :D I know she does daytime TV now but that's too early for my liking :) lol

It's weird but but I couldn't stop smiling after around 1:23 in that video. Watching the guy perform just genuinly made me happy. He brightened up my otherwise boring day today haha

I know I'm making a heavy generalisation here, but this show makes me want to cut myself. Seriously.

Thought that Essex girl was strangely fit... When she was singing... Obv not when she was talking!

I hated her voice, but her singing was awesome. Still though 19 and she had what looked like a 3 year old? Single mum and the guy at the bottom of the stairs wasn't her boyfriend? Still I liked her.

What the fuck are the Sister Act family eating, holy fucking shit. It's people like that who make the government think we have a problem with obesity.

I will post more when I have finished watching the show :)

Eh... I'd give her another kid.

Just watching X-Tra Factor now, never really watched this before (but I do love Holly)... It's funnier than I expected actually.

The fatties did have fat parents to be fair so it could be genetics... But I doubt it, just need to lay off the macies tbh. I was just thankful the stage managed to hold them.. Must have been reinforced.

Edit: Also.. That Danyl guy- I did think was really good actually, but I think it's kinda unfair to compare him to previous years and say he was the best... The reason he was so good because he played up to the crowd and it was like a proper performance... Previous years have just been in a small room with 3/4 judges.

That guy threw it out like it was the finals! If he can do something like that on every performance AND show the vocal strength he did in the big parts....he could take that competition and never even worry.

And I havent even seen anything else about it. haha

Yeah, in response to both of OSC and AFS, this new system of having a crowd in front of the auditionees (inspired by America/Britain's Got Talent) is really meant to make everyone step their game up a bit. And judging by this Danyl guy, it's working. You would NEVER see anything like that in a first audition in a small room infront of 3-4 judges, having the crowd is really fresh. I like it.

If anybody caught the Xtra factor this week, Simon Cowell mentioned the reason he felt he had to do this was because after his work on Britain's Got Talent, going in to small room with no audience felt a little "fake". He said he liked having a crowd's reaction behind him. That, and it would make people step their game up like I said above.

Apparantly one of the other main reasons was to throw everyone in at the deep end straight away so if, like Susan Boyle this year in Britain's Got Talent, anyone struggled in front of the crowd then Cowell can decide wether or not it's worth risking their health by putting them through.

What AFS said is pretty much what I said when I first saw it. I reckon that guy has the charisma and the talent to make it all the way this year. Yes comparing him to past auditions isn't fair becuase he was able to perform but even still his vocal talent is amazing and he has the look they always go for.

That guy from Glasgow ashamed us, truly ashamed us, and if I meet him I will punch him.

Edit: Search Danyl on Youtube, he has other stuff on there and he is still awesome :)

I want to have sex with Holly. That is all that needs to be said really.

I can understand people watching this for Holly's hotness (but not for Cheryl Cole - does absolutely nothing for me) I can almost understand (but not condone) people watching it for the 'let's laugh at the freaks' value. I cannot understand anyone who does not place Simon Cowell in the same bracket as Hitler, X-P*c, Judas, Bin Laden. The chances of finding anyone with real talent on these shows is next to nil. What they have are acceptable singing voices which they have trained to do a Mariah Carey/Michael Jackson/whoever is fashionable these days impersonation.
Please do not watch this next Saturday night. Please go to a local pub/venue and check out whatever band is on. They might be good. They might be crap, but you're more likely to find The Beatles there than on the X Factor.

Could be worse; you could have had two absolute cocks (© James May) from Dublin making idiots out of Irishmen everywhere, with Louis drooling over them the entire time. My God that was embarassing!

True. What was with the American accents? The were trying too hard to be the backstreet boys and just became insanely annoying.

Well that's not true. Obviously there are people who get quite far who are pretty shit (Chico, Leon Jackson, Steve Brookstein etc.) but they have found some pretty good talent (JLS, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Rhydian)... I'm not even a fan of most of them but have to admit they have talent. Just because Leona can sing like Mariah, why is that a bad thing? Because she's not unique? Very few artists are now a days. And as much as I hate/hated Rhydian... He was pretty uniquely talented (for mainstream pop anyway).

They have talent in the way that a dog in a tutu dancing around on its hind legs has talent. Most other dogs couldn't do that, but it (to me) is in no way entertaining. I would never contemplate buying a CD by any of the artists you mention.
Yeah, when it comes to 'art' whether it be painting, acting, music or whatever, originality is very important. Someone doing an inch perfect copy of The Mona Lisa is not as talented as Leonardo Da Vinci. (And Mariah Carey is not Leonardo Da Vinci!)
Real talent produces art that is not motivated by the desire for fame or money. Occasionally, it results in both, but when the driving force is that desire (as is obviously the case in the X-Factor) then any talent that does emerge is purely by accident.

(I did a night class in Music once at Glasgow Uni and was told that this is the Marxist assessment of art. So, I'm both 'Marxist' - Prof Simon Frith, and 'reactionary' - D2KVirus)

I don't really think you're their target market though to be honest. I wouldn't buy CDs by any of them either really but I wouldn't deny they had talent just because I'm not a fan.

I think someone who is capable of producing a perfect copy of the Mona Lisa must be a pretty talented artist to be fair. Also, it's not like they just cover all of said pop stars songs through out their career, it's just a similar style. So it's like saying any abstract artist isn't really talented because they're just emulating Picasso.
