NWA TNA PPV report for 6/30 aka Suddenly the Great American Bash wasn't so bad

It was announced that the scheduled main event between A.J. Styles and Kid Kash wouldn't take place because Kash had been suspended. Nice to advertise it all week. So we had another show where they did the Vince Russo mystery main event tease for 90 minutes.

1. Sabu & Sonjay Dutt beat Petey Williams & Bobby Roode in 10:23 when Sabu pinned Roode after an Arabian press. Crowd was hot for this match, just like the Bash when crowd started hot. Mostly heat on Dutt, Sabu making the hot tag. Sabu blocked a hockey stick shot by hitting the stick with a chair, and then used the chair for the press. Scott D'Amore yelled at Roode for losing until Eric Young & Johnny Devine came out to calm things down. Good opener, but it ended here.

Vince Russo came out. After a week, he still hadn't made his decision about who was the champion, so he invited Jeff Jarrett and Ron Killings to both make their closing arguments. Jarrett showed tapes where Russo and ref Rudy Charles made it clear that anyone using a guitar would be DQ'd. Jarrett is now wearing a crown and referred to as "The King." Well, I guess if he'd have grown up in the Carolinas he'd be The Nature Boy and in Florida he'd be The Dream. And if he grew up in California, he'd book the Mexicans better. Ron Killings came out with B.G. James and Konnan. He said he was either going to use the guitar, or be hit with it, and he acted in self defense. He gave quite the speech. He also made a few O.J. trial remarks including call Russo "Judge Ito." Vince then gave a long speech himself. After all this, he announced Jarrett was still the champion. But he announced next week would be a Gauntlet (Royal Rumble) for the title with Jarrett, Killings, B.G., Konnan, Onyx, Hotstuff Hernandez, Chad Collyer and Ken Shamrock. They all wound up brawling. Please don't try and make any sense out of this because it can't be done.

2. D-Lo Brown double count out Monty Brown in 4:57. This was worse than anything on the Bash including Sable's match. Either they couldn't work together, or D-Lo got his bell rung because he was messing everything up. They ended up fighting in the crowd and the bell rang to end it. They had a post-match pull-apart.

3. Sonny Siaki & Pat Kenney beat Glenn Gilberti & Johnny Swinger in the double jeopardy match in 5:57. This was even worse than the previous match. Gilberti and Swinger got a good reaction in the leprechaun and hula dancer outfit, but once the match started, it was awful. Flowers from Swinger's outfit were all over the ring This reminded me of the Ding Dongs debut on the WCW Clash many years ago, except the wrestling was better in that match. David Young hit Kenney with a chain and Gilberti pinned him in 5:28. Mike Posey then told Andrew Thomas what happened and he restarted hte match. Of course Kenney schoolboyed Gilberti in :29 to win. Big Vito, who I guess is the boss of the NYC although it was never actually said, started yelling at Gilberti & Swinger for losing. Gilberti & Swinger have to wear the outfits now for another 60 days.

4. Abyss pinned Erik Watts, so Goldylocks got Watts' contract, in 7:26. It wouldn't be a PPV this week without three horrible matches in a row, and this was the third. No heat at all. Watts' wife Georgia, who may or may not have been his real wife (typical blond with a big rack that made Watts look like quite the moron cheating on her with Goldy) was at ringside. Funniest thing was Abyss trying to set up a spot by putting a chair between the ropes. It took him forever to do it, and he wanted Watts to leave him alone, so Watts had to have time stand still (and this wasn't the only time on the show this happened). The chair kept falling out of place. Goldy had to put it back. Watts went to choke slam Goldy, but she raked his eyes and Abyss won with the black hole slam. I don't know what happened to Watts because he's worse than most people after three months of training, and he's been around wrestling for 12 years now. Abyss was choking Watts with a chain when Georgia hit the ring and they did a pull-apart with her and Goldy. Fans were into the women brawling.

5. The Naturals beat AMW in what was a non-title match in 11:03. Stevens pinned Harris by reversing a rolling reverse cradle and holding Andy Douglas for leverage. They all worked hard. Not as good as some of their bouts, but it was Flair-Steamboat compared to the previous three matches.

The advertised update on Jeff Hardy was--there is no update. All I can say if they better have him signed as much as they are pushing him. But even if they do sign him, with his track record, how long can they depend on him? There is a reason he's not in WWE, and it really speaks volumes that that TNA would pick him up, push him like he's the next big thing, and not care about that reason.

Vince's ruling is that all the X guys could get a title shot tonight. Well, all except Christopher Daniels, who was there, gave a great promo, but doesn't have medical clearance.

6. A.J. Styles kept the X title in a six-way over Kazarian, Red, Chris Sabin, Michael Shane and Prime Time in 15:41. This was real good, and built well in the end. Styles used the Styles clash on Red coming off the ropes for the pin. After the match, basically everyone on the card did run-ins and brawled with their partners. Pretty wild end of the show. Show wasn't a total waste and did end better than the Bash, but I thought I'd seen the worst two matches of the year on Sunday, and this show had three as bad or worse.

The main event should be good, especially with all the people in it, unfortunately though I cant see it being anything more than a Spot fest. Dam shame that Chris Daniels isn’t a 100%, as I’d have preferred him in the main event as opposed to Prime time.

Everything else look’s pretty hit or miss. Shame there was no Raven, but that’s probably down to the fact he’s injured, wouldn’t have minded a promo from him though on Sabu.

The TNA main event scene is starting to annoy me. Is K Kwick the only threat to Jarrett? Hopefully Ken Shamrock will be a in the title hunt and we may get to see what was intended between the 3 2 years ago. Vince Russo is starting to annoy me, I wish he’d just stick to writing.

Anyway I anticipate Chris Daniels return so I can see him feud with AJ Styles.

Thoughts?
