Sir Paul McCartney played an exclusive performance on the roof of The Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York on Wednesday July 15 for the US TV Show “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

45 years after his American television debut with the beetles, Sir Paul performed a selection of songs including “Coming Up,” “Band on the Run,” “Let me Roll It,” “Helter Skelter,” “Back in The USSR,” and “Get Back.”

The performance was to promote his mini tour around America, which will begin in New York on July 17 and the audience, which blocked the streets around the theatre included actor Bruce Willis.

I'm a McCartney fan, don't get me wrong, but something tells me that Lennon is rolling in his grave right now. Harrison's probably lying still, he's cool like that. As for Ringo Starr? Well, no one cares about Ringo Starr.

~EDIT~
Who the hell wrote that article? TMZ!? Very poorly written. The Beetles typo alone is pretty damn tragic.

I'm also a Lennon fan, so don't get me wrong, but fuck John Lennon :) While McCartney is still out there doing what he does best, Lennon would probably either be lying in a bed for a prolonged amount of time, or on his ay to Buckingham Palace with a bag full of honours ready to be returned. I hate this wierd notion that somehow McCartney almost "let's down" the good name of The Beatles or embaresses himself or The Beatles legacy. Good calls with both George and Ringo however.

I wasn't saying I agreed with it, I was just saying that this seems like the kind of thing that would have really pissed off Lennon if he were still alive. (Probably says more about Lennon than it does McCartney or the Beatles though)

Am I alone in having a mental image of that episode of The Simpsons? "It's been done."

Lennon lost the right to be the last word in coolness when he released Double Fantasy.

What price the original rooftop concert as the best gig ever?
