Smackdown's Situation
This is my second column in here and I believe that the one thing I need to discuss is the situation that Smackdown is in. Many of you have said that Smackdown is doing horribly and I couldn't agree much more, with John "Bradshaw" Layfield as the WWE Champion that leaves very few choices for superstars who could challenge him for his title. The way the WWE writers are thinking the only people they would give a WWE Title shot to for Summerslam would either be Eddie Guerrero, John Cena and Undertaker. Well with Cena feuding with Kurt Angle that just leaves Eddie Guerrero and Undertaker. So there are really one two possibilities I see that could happen for Summerslam, one being a re-match (again) between Eddie Guerrero and John "Bradshaw" Layfield or they could have a triple thread match for the WWE Championship between Eddie Guerrero, John "Bradshaw" Layfield and the Undertaker. But I highly favor the triple thread and I'll tell you why. In 2000 Triple H had a feud with Cactus Jack, if you all remember they faced each other at the 2000 Royal Rumble in a Street Fight which Triple H, then at No Way Out they faced each other again (one on one) in a Hell in a Cell Match, Triple H, finally the feud ended in the biggest stage of them all, Wrestlemania in a Fatal Four Way Elimination match between Triple H, Mick Foley, The Rock, and Big Show. (my point will be made in due time) We go on to 2-3 years ago when WCW/ECW invaded the WWF/E. If you remember at Summerslam Stone Cold Steve Austin defended his WWF/E Title against Kurt Angle in which Kurt won by disqualification thanks to Austin attacking ref so when he attacked the referee that gave you a huge clue that the feud will continue on, they went on to face each other again at Unforgiven i, this time Kurt won the match and more importantly the WWE Title and you know Austin wouldn't let this feud end with Kurt winning , finally the feud ended (with austin as a heel and kurt as a face) at No Mercy in a Triple Thread Match between Austin, Kurt, and Rob Van Dam for the WWE Title in which Austin won. The point I'm trying to make is that history repeats itself. Originally both these feuds (hhh/cactus jack and austin/kurt) began as a one on one rivalry and both ended with someone else in the mix. So this feud between Eddie Guerrero and John "Bradshaw" Layfield is almost the same kind of a feud as Austin had with Kurt and HHH had with Cactus Jack. That is why I'm saying and I'm sticking my idea that at Summerslam John "Bradshaw" Layfield will end his rivalry with Eddie Guerrero in a Triple Thread match with JBL, Eddie Guerrero, and The Undertaker. Many of you may disagree but you admit that the WWE will not let the JBL/Eddie Guerrero feud end at the Great American Bash. Well that's my idea of what will happen between the feud of JBL and Eddie Guerrero.
Now let me talk about the United States Title Division, and so far the only real contenders for the title (that the wwe writers have used as of late) are John Cena, Booker T, Rob Van Dam and Rene Dupree. I believe I found a way to help all four men, many of you including me have said that both Booker T and Rob Van Dam need to be in the WWE Title picture because for one thing they deserve it, now let me tell you my idea. Seeing that both men need to be in the WWE Title picture why not just have them face each other at Summerslam, a match between Rob Van Dam and Booker T would be a hell of a idea. The WWE can give me a good amount of time so that both men can put up a hell of a match and prove to everyone that they need to be in the WWE Title picture, if the WWE allowed them to be in the WWE Title picture then that means that superstars like Mark Jindrak, Charlie Haas, and possibly Rey Mysterio can move on to the United States division because with RVD and Booker T fighting for the WWE Title that leaves some open spots for a United States Contender and thats where Jindrak, Haas and Mysterio can perfectly fit into. As for the U.S. Champion John Cena well how about they have John Cena and Rene Dupree face each other once again for the United States Title in which Dupree could win, with Dupree winning Cena can move on to be a high mid-carder, Cena could be facing superstars like Kurt Angle, Booker T, RVD, Eddie Guerrero, or Taker in pay per views and just keep Cena away from the United States Title for a while until he moves on to the WWE Title picture maybe after Wrestlemania 21 (where he could face Kurt, maybe). So this is almost like a 3 for 3 trade, Cena Booker T and RVD goes on to the WWE Title picture, while the low mid-carders, Haas mysterio and Jindrak can move on to the United States Title Division. This is a little off-topic but with Mysterio leaving the Cruiserweight division that allows Kidman, Paul London, and Shannon Moore to step up and actually be fighting for the Cruiserweight Title. Now back to the US Title. After Summerslam in which Dupree could win the US Title, Cena can possibly start a feud with the Big Show, big show can return and kurt can say that Cena deserves to be taught a lesson for what he has done and so at the next smackdown pay per view John Cena could face the Big Show, this would allow Kurt to recover from his surgery and give him time to heal so that when he returns to the ring he will be at 100% to wrestle.
Now I head on to the Women. The WWE should not continue having Torrie face Dawn or Torrie face Sable in a pay per view, they just take up space for other deserving superstars. What the Divas of Smackdown should be doing is either managing a superstars and helping them develop into the legends of tomorrow or if they want to wrestle then have them wrestle on velocity while Kidman and London wrestle at Smackdown, switch them over and I almost guarantee the ratings will improve. I'm not saying take Torrie Wilson, Dawn Marie, and Sable off of the Smackdown Television, they could show up on Smackdown in bikini contests or things like that but smackdown can't go as far as having them in a pay per view match. They can show up in a pay per view, but not to wrestle, maybe a bikini contest or a bra and panties match (so that the male populations will pay attention, I know I would) but not in a one on one match.
Now I move on to the one title divison that smackdown is lacking and that is the tag team division. At the Great American Bash the Undertaker squashed the Dudleyz, the current tag team champions, which was a huge mistake which I will discuss later on about the deadman. Alright Smackdown is lacking tag teams but when theres a will, theres a way. The current tag teams in smackdown are the Dudleyz, Holly/Gunn, Akio/Sakoda, and the F.B.I., with Rico injured Haas is on his own. So that means Smackdown needs to use the F.B.I. in tag team matches on smackdown instead of wrestling at Velocity and getting squashed by the undertaker on smackdown. So why not have Akio/Sakoda and the F.B.I. get tag team title matches, they have the talent, but Smackdown doesn't use them. They can become a good tag team when they could have faced the Dudleyz on Smackdown or even pay per views. Now, I have been studying the Smackdown roster so whats wrong with possibly have Kenzo Suzuki team up with Funaki, heck have Kenzo team with Akio and Sakoda and have like a Evolution stable with Kenzo, Funaki, Akio, and Sakoda. It might not work but the way Smackdown is going, there really is nothing to work with. Or have Kidman and Paul London in the tag team division, Smackdown could have 6 tag teams, Dudleyz, Bashams, Akio and Sakoda, F.B.I., Holly/Gunn, and Kidman/London, I believe thats enough tag teams for Smackdown and if they need more tag teams they could always use Kenzo/Funaki. Thats more than enough tag teams for the tag team division. Just have the Dudleyz feud with Kidman/London or the Bashams, they could possible have a good feud and even have a great pay per view match, maybe not for Summerslam or for some other pay per views. But before just giving them a tag team title match, put them in tag team matches (whoever smackdown would want to use) on Smackdown show's, velocity, and some pay per view matches and when there ready then could face the Dudleyz for the tag team titles. Until a tag team is solid enough to fight for the titles they could always have the Dudleyz feud with the Bashams until that day comes.
Now I will talk about the cruiserweight division. With Mysterio (the best cruiserweight smackdown currently has) moving on to the U.S. Title Division, Smackdown could be able to use Billy Kidman, Paul London, Shannon Moore, Spike Dudley, and Jamie Noble, one of them would fit fine as a cruiserweight champion, because I'm little sick and tired of just watching Chavo Guerrero as the Champ, he's a great wrestler and all but I wouldn't mind seeing someone else be the champion besides Chavo and Mysterio. And with my idea, with Mysterio in the US Title Division, Chavo could possibly start a feud with Kidman and London, possibly a triple thread match, which could lead to a feud between Kidman and London and if Smackdown had a Billy Kidman vs Paul London for the Cruiserweight title in a pay per view then they could possibly have one of the greatest cruiserweight match of all time if Smackdown just allows them and gives them enough time to do everything in their arsenal.
We move on to the situation of the Undertaker. Since his return to Smackdown at Wrestlemania 20 he has been squashing every single superstar he has met. Let me make this perfectly clear, there is no point for the Undertaker having to destroy every superstar he has faced. He needs to job to a few superstars here and there so that they can go over with the fans. Superstars like Booker T is a good example. Booker T needs a big victory like defeating the undertaker so that he could move on to the WWE Title division. The Undertaker doesn't necessarily need to job to everyone he faces, but certain individuals like the Dudleyz at the Great American Bash for a start, Booker T, possibly John Cena, and even Rob Van Dam. It wouldn't hurt the Undertaker's career. Look what Mick Foley did, he jobbed (with the rock) to Orton, batista and Flair so that Orton can go over with the fans. Then at Backlash he jobbed again to Orton in that hellacious street fight. Now look at Orton, a man who is headed to become a World Champion and look at Mick Foley, he is still respected by the fans and he will always be considered as a legend no matter what, so whats wrong with the Undertaker doing the same thing? Nothing, there is nothing wrong with the Undertaker jobbing to these rookies. Undertaker's time has passed, his legacy has been set, now that his career is almost over he needs to job to a few superstars so that they can become a legend themselves (possibly) in the future and then those superstars can job to the next generation of superstars and so on and so on. Almost like the circle of life, once the lion is old its time for the young lions to step in and take over. Smackdown needs to concentrate on making there Smackdown superstars into contenders, at first that was the reason why I thought The Undertaker was on smackdown so that he could job to a few superstars here and there so that they could become the next big superstars of tomorrow.
Well that has been my second installment of my "Highlight Reel" Column. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you leave some feedback as well. And again, my catchphrase will begin in 1..................2..................3
