Barring some unforeseen major physical setback, Brett Favre will be at training camp in Mankato when they open up the end of July, a source has told WCCO's Mark Rosen.

That source said that Favre and the Vikings have indeed come to a contractual agreement, with heavy incentives. The Vikings equipment manager has already ordered number 4 purple jerseys with his name on it.

However, on Sunday, Favre's longtime agent, Bus Cooke denied a report that was out there that Favre and the Vikings had come to an agreement.

What isn't known is when this will be officially announced. Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress is in Alaska fishing this week with his good friend, Eagles head coach, Andy Reid.

ProFootballTalk.com speculated the announcement will come Fourth of July weekend, when a lot of media folks are on vacation to minimize the circus atmosphere.

John David Booty is currently wearing number 4, but not for long. Rosen said he believes the Vikings will keep Booty. The logical man to try and move would be Tavaris Jackson with Sage Rosenfels backing Favre up and ready to take over if Favre can't get the job done.

So here we are, well as a Vikings fan I am excited because Favre was the only Packer I ever liked, and it's going to bug Packer fans quite a bit. Plus, it either gets the Vikings to the promise land or it doesn't work. Hell, Tavaris isn't getting us there so why not? What are your thoughts on the return of the forever unretiring Brett Favre?

Is the guy bi-polar or something? Who retires and returns...twice? I really don't care that he wants to still play. He obviously still can. Just stop faking your retirement, damn it.

probably others but he is probably the biggest name to do it more then once (three times?)

As a born and raised Viking fan I am happy about Favre signing with the team but I do have to agree with Sunshine about retirement thing. If Favre takes the Vikings to the promise land that would be great but I am just hoping for a great season.

Uhh thing with Jordan is, he didn't change his mind within one off-season. His father was MURDERED. He actually retired for a good two years and actually did other things in life he wanted to accomplish (tried to anyway).

Brett Favre gets interviewed after his season is over and after announcing his retirement. He gets asked about how he'll cope with no longer playing anymore. "When the season starts, I'll just have to turn off my TV and get on a tractor". He hasn't even stayed retired long enough for that situation to happen. Not to mention, MJ never put the Bulls in the most awkward dilemma possible.

I am a huge Vikings fan as well, born and raised on to be honest. I never liked the Packers or Favre, mainly because he was the enemy but now with him probably becoming a good guy I think it will work. Think of the profits the Vikings will get even if Favre doesn't do well! The Jerseys, the Tickets, the Fanfare! I mean damn he will make the Vikings a talk of the town, Sports World and thats what we need here in Minny!

Honestly I see this as a good move on the Vikings part, mainly becase Favre won't be doing all the work. If he does indeed play for Minnesota, he'll have a superstar running back, which Favre has never really had aside from one or two good seasons from Ahman Green. If this story is true, Vikings are the team to beat.

Okay. Now....I realize that Favre has still "got it". But let us face facts here. Last year, with the Jets, Favre began to fade, his numbers sucked, and the Jets, a team that controlled its' own playoff destiny, missed the playoffs. And Favre had a good receiving core, two solid RB's. Basically, he had a good team around him. As I said though, he faltered when it mattered. This fact alone could be the reason why he is coming back. Well that and he just loves playing the game, and he just cannot seem to let go.

Being honest, this is a bad move by the Vikings. I realize the appeal here. It was the same appeal the Jets saw when they signed Brett. But you are building a team, based around a physical running game and a good defense, and all you really need is a QB who can be consistent and doesn't try to win games for you. Farve is a guy who has won games all his life, and he always tries to do too much. Understand that when the Packers went to two consecutive Super Bowls, winning one of those, they had balance. And they had Mike Holmgren to reign in Farve. Childress doesn't come off as the kind of guy who will reign in Farve.

Anyways, the Vikings just need a solid, consistent QB who can manage the team and stick to the gameplan. I realize that Jackson just wasn't getting the job done, but why you bring in Farve for a year (maybe) on a team built to keep improving over the next few years is beyond me. Yes, I know this is Bret Farve we are talking about. One of the all time greats. And he wants to play. And yes, you will sell tickets. But taking a one year chance to win it all, versus contending for a couple years....well I would have gone with the latter.

farve in a dome should be fine late into the season, and with ap as his runnign back the team doesnt solely have to rely on him...i could see them doing well this year

Chazz is the guy to listen to this thread, and being a guy who knows a lot about Brett Favre, you should take me at my word on that. I can't expect the Vikes to be a serious threat this year, Favre is in the decline and is not a good fit for this team. The entire NFC North has problems, the Vikes will be no exception.

This is a move to save Chilly's job while hopefully grabbing some merchandise sales in the process as the Vikes revenues are amongst the lowest in the NFL. I can't fault the logic, AD won't be able to play at this level long with his running style and the defense is ready, they feel like they can make a run. You never know in the NFL. In theory it's a risk worth taking but...

Good luck reigning him in. The guy will throw it into coverage whenever he feels like it. I've never seen a QB who throws the football away less. He simply doesn't like the idea of being a "game manager." He sees it as an insult. Also, this is clearly a vengeance move for him. Lord Favre has to stick it to Ted Thompson for having the audacity to move on without him. The world should stop for his primadonna bitch ass. AD is one of my favorite college football players of all time so as long as he gets his #s I'm happy for him but otherwise, good luck. I think the Vikes will go about 9-7 again and wind up out of the playoffs early. At least for us we were finally able to move past the Chad Pennington era. For the Vikes this is just a desperation move to save the job of an inept head coach who's handpicked QB has been a disaster thus far. At least they'll be able to make some money in the process.

Brett Favre is a diva, plain and simple.

And I can see it now, Brett Favre has a stellar 1st half, shitty 2nd half.

Retires, then signs with the Broncos because the fans in Denver ran Kyle Orton out.
