I actually know VERY little about these games and the differences. I've played Guitar Hero a few times (only on guitar) and want to get one of them, but don't know which? So, taking everything into account... Which is better?

I can assure you, if you buy Rock Band 2, you will get a bunch more bang out of your buck. The sheer amount of DLC alone is extraordinary, meaning you'll have access to a staggering amount of music and a great variety. Admittedly, the guitar peripheral is not as good as Guitar Hero, but the drums are superior (if only barely) and the microphone is well...a microphone. The overall game engine is better for Rock Band too. Harmonix is a group of developers mostly made up of musicians who know how to chart music, and there's very little of the abysmal charting you'll see in GH3 and GH:SH. Not only is the charting great, but the engine itself is spot on. Calibration is a breeze to set up, and the interface is perfect. The vocal engine is perfect if you're into singing, the instrument meter is easy to see wherever you are on screen, as well as the stars and combo meters. Most importantly, Rock Band creates a more social experience by allowing other players to support each other in game with use of Overdrive. With Guitar Hero, there's no way to save your failing members of your band, leaving casual gamers in a much bigger predicament.
I got nothing else to add off the top of my head, but seriously, Rock Band is the superior product.

I haven't really given a damn since GH III. I'll play whatever I can play, but I haven't personally bought any of the newer games myself. (I played the first 3 ALOT and only really get enjoyment out the games anymore if im playing with others in a band or against them).
However, Rock Band: Beatles? Day one!

I'll stick up for Guitar Hero. I've played both, and for my money, I enjoy GH better than I do Rockband. It was a tough call though.

I vote for that kodo drumming game I played in Tokyo. That was serious greatness!
