View Full Version : Memorable boss fights(May contain spoilers...)
I was thinking about some boss battles that I have played over the years. One of the most memorable boss fights for me would be the fight between Solid Snake and Rex in MGS on the Playstation.
Another one would be in FFVIII, the secret boss battle before the end boss. Ultima, I think it was called. Some massive silver demon where Squall's lionheart limit break was one of the best attacks as the boss neutralised all magic and elements, so the only way of damaging it was using non elementals like that limit break the Eden(the GF).
More recently, there has been Wesker from Resident Evil 5... Twice. Maybe the Super-Mutant Behemoths from Fallout 3. The little black monsters from Lost Oddyessy.
Cant think of anymore at the moment. Anyone else?

- Goro (Mortal Kombat). It was crazy when you first made it to him. The strength and four arms. He was better than Shang Tsung and Shao Khan.
- Hydra (God Of War). First Boss. IT WAS EPIC. That is all.
- Sephiroth (Kingdom Hearts). Yes, the Kingdom Hearts version. He was hard as hell.
- Collossus of Rhodes (God Of War II). See Hydra. Can't wait to see what III has to offer.
- Sin/"Final Aeon". Sure it was two bosses, but they kinda wen't together.

All of the Mario/Bowser battles in SM64. Can't get better than that.

Old school here: Street Fighter 2, M. Bison. I seriously marked the fuck out just for getting there (and marked twice as hard when I won).

MGS 3 had a lot of great boss battles but for me taking down "The End" was a bit difficult.

Fighting Giovanni in the last Rocket Hangout before unlocking his gym. Getting the was epic. Beating him was like OH SHIT I BETTER SAVE.
BTW, that was Yellow Version, considering it was hard enough to get there.

- Sephiroth (Kingdom Hearts). Yes, the Kingdom Hearts version. He was hard as hell.
Was that the guy in the Hercules arena? If so then yes, that was my moment of Glory. Loved fighting him though, you had to play pretty perfect.

If I'm correct, Auron was in the Hercules Arena.
Still very good. I loved KH2 and the multiple boss battles involved.

No I just looked it up, it was Sephiroth, it was after you beat the game.

Alot of people where in that arena. And it didnt even have to be after you beat the game, you could do it whenever, it was just incredibly hard to beat him any any level below the highest.

Hydra from God Of War: Yeah, this was one of the most memorable boss battles I've had because not only was it insanely fun, the graphics were awesome and the scale of the monster was epic.
The End from MGS3: Fucking sweet!, I basically recreated Enemy of The Gates trying to beat this dipshit. For 2 hours we stalked each other trying to get a shot at each other or finding each other. Mentally draining battle.
Thats all I remember off the top of my head.

I vageuly remember a really hard guy in the hercules arena... I don't even remember how Kingdom Hearts really worked now (never played 2) but the bosses were cool because they were classic disney villains!

I found most of the boss fights in MGS 4 pretty cool, despite them being rather easy and/or repetative. That being said, Metal Gear Rex vs Metal Gear Ray was probably the most epic fight I've ever played. Awesome.
Also, I think I'm gonna have to go back and play Kingdom Hearts again! That game was brilliant.

I'm glad i'm not the only one that loves that series (and i'm 22).
Seriously buy KHII.

I also agree with that sentiment. Anyone who's been here long enough knows I'm a serious Kingdom Hearts fanboy.
Does Rock Band 2's Endless Setlist 2 count? That's a hell of a fight :D
On a similar note, Devil Went Down To Georgia on GHIII, only because of it's ridiculously overcharted impossibility.

MGS1: Psycho Mantis
Say what you will now, but when this game first came out, and you had to figure out how to beat Mantis, the idea of having to change controller slots was pretty sweet to do. And hearing Mantis say, "I can read your mind" in his creepy voice just made you mad as hell, lol.
NINJA GAIDEN: ALMA
For a boss that you fight in Chapter 7 (which is basically a middle boss) you don't expect THAT hard of a battle. But Alma was a tough bitch. You had to get her down and use ice storm on her....that is, if you could strike her down, which was tough. And her little ray that teleported you up to her, and she smashed the hell out of you was just sick. Actually, many people feel she was the toughest boss in this game. Murai, the final boss, wasn't all that hard.

Devil Went Down to Georgia wasnt amazingly hard, but it was still the most difficult thing on that game. I could even beat TTFAF.
The Endless Setlist 2 wasnt too hard either.

Psycho Mantis can't be anything but memorable - when he taunts you with "Useless" when you miss with a PPK combo, and makes the controller vibrate (apparently he can also read other Konami save files off your memory card, but I never saw this myself), that's a pretty high watermark.
Yunalesca on FFX. It just felt like an epic battle, and you had to work to beat her.
Parasite Eve 2 had a couple of great bosses. The Flamer/Cannon Mouth battle was like nothing I'd ever seen before (OK, yes it was - I'd played Super Metroid, after all), and the Big Mouth/Waste Emperor battle was equally nuts.
Emerald Weapon on FFVII was memorable - not least because beating the motherfucker was joyous relief when I finally did it.
The final boss battle on PoP: The Two Thrones was well done, too.
Shadow Rise in Persona 4 was...ummm...well, you won't forget that one in a hurry, that's for sure!

I know that it probably wouldn't be considered a "boss fight", but I will mention it anyway....lol......
THE FLOOD in HALO.
It was built up nicely, and it was so damn frustrating fighting them, especially the little ones, lol.

Hell yeah! And it was scary too because those things were jumping out from all over the place. One of the best ever.

Well here some of my memorable video game boss fights
Mike Tyson: Mike Tyson's Punch Out (NES)
Link vs Gannon/Gannondorf: Legend of Zelda Series
Solid Snake vs Psycho Mantis, Solid Snake vs Metal Gear Rex/Liquid Snake: Metal Gear Solid
Fighting M. Bison: Street Fighter 2. (yeah this was back when getting to a fighting game boss was a challenge). I might have to give an honorable mention to Seth in Street Fighter 4.
Mother Brain: Metroid (NES) and Super Metroid (SNES)
Alma: Ninja Gaiden- probably responsible for a few broken controllers out there.
GTA series: 6 star wanted level. Yeah not a boss level but you know you are in deep shit if you get up to that level. Of course getting that level for the fun of it after using a few weapon/armor/tank cheats and it's on.
Shao Kahn: MK2, MK3, MK:Shaolin Monks: This guy was the badass of fighting game bosses. He would whoop your ass and trash talk while doing it -"You will die", "Bow to me", "Don't Make me laugh"
OF course, a well placed finishing special move or uppercut while he taunts was most satisfying

NEMESIS: (Resident Evil 3)- This might be one of the most annoying bosses to kill, simply because you keep killing him throughout the game.
MALAK: (Star Wars: KOTOR)- It took me awhile to figure out that standing and facing Malak face to face just wasn't gonna work. Running around and using force lightning does the trick. Still, he was a tough bastard to beat.

Ahriman: Prince of Persia (2008), You go through the whole game basically fighting different versions of similar chariters. Even the mini bosses are not horribly different really. Then you get to Ahriman and suddenly it kinda turns into an awesome sidescroller in black and white. Not the hardest battle I have ever had but very memorable for lots of other reasons (like getting eaten).

Pyscho Mantis in MGS1 is probably the most memorable for me. Very creative, very original, very awesome.
Rex vs Ray in MGS4 takes the epic biscuit though. Just.... Awesome.

Fight against Liquid Ocelot in MGS4, holy shit were the presentation values awesome in that fight, and it felt really epic and personal, being a straight on fist fight.. one of the most memorable boss fights. ( I just finished the game yesterday, great game)

Memorable boss fights for me which ironically aren't all difficult battle but rather just awesome in some way.
CBFD: The Mighty Poo, anyone not know of this battle?
CBFD: The boiler and fire demons, you know its an awesome boss when you have to literally destroy it's balls.
Etrian Odyssey/Etrian Odyssey 2(very similar games): Battle vs human enemy (as oppossed to monsters which make up all battles barring this one). In 1 it's Ronin and Hexer, in 2 it's Gunner and War Magus. I simply love these 2 battles, especially after the interaction with them earlier in the game. I'm just disappointed that I can only do this battle once thoughout the game.

Got to give two thumbs up for that...
Also the second sniper battle with the Wolf on MSG 1.
The first encounter with the Hunters on Halo 1 was freaking awesome as I was clueless on how to defeat them or even how to shoot at those big buggers!

That ancient ghost wall or whatever it was in Final Fantasy VII. Wasn't exactly hard when you figured out all you had to do was throw a pheonix down at it in one go, but it stuck in my mind regardless.
Just finished Prototype the other day and I have to say that I found Elizabeth Green to be the most annoying boss to have played against in a while. I died so many times trying to figure out just how to beat her.
You had to figure it out?? Just do loads of Devastator attacks. Speciallay after you unlock the 'Air Tendril Devastator'. Just take cover behind some buildings, hunters and military units will persue you, kill them and collect the health and fill the blue bar... Then go back and use your air devastator or the blade attack from the air. Job done.
On te subject of Prototype, I had a bitch of a time trying to kill the supreme hunter aboard the boat. Until I used muscle mass and just hurled missiles and blood tox containers at it, all while keeping my distance. It never touched me using that method.

I used a different method in the end. I spent about 5 rounds trying devastator attacks and using the blade from above, I always died before getting close enough to knocking her unconscious and always interrupted when trying to power up for a devastator (those damn green plasma ball things). In the end I kept hijacking the tanks and going crazy until it got destroyed and another one came along. When she was unconscious, I'd swipe away with the blades.
I also used a different (and probably stupid) approach at the end boss fight, but at least it worked. All I did was glide away and keep locked on, keep hitting him from a distance with the whipfist, and using it to reach him when he was dazed and ready for the close attack. He never seemed to touch me at that stage, only the soldiers seemed to get me in that one.
