Y2J World Champ Presents
WWE Intercontinental Title
Well this is the first column that I will be writing. If people enjoy it then I'll continue writing more columns, but if people hate it then I'll just continue writing my Raw Shows and quit writing columns.
Well what a perfect column to write about the most popular title to millions of fans, the Intercontinental Title! As many of you know this is a stepping stone for many of the great legendary wrestlers who go on to become WWE Champions. There are so many superstars who used this belt to get to the top, let me give you 10 superstars who have used this belt to get to the top, superstars from Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho (how can we forget him), and finally Kane. No one will ever forget these superstars because all these superstars are without a doubt one of the best superstars in WWE history, screw that, these superstars are one of the best in the Wrestling World. All these men used the Intercontinental Title as a stepping stone, and all these men went on to become the WWE Champions.
Now lets talk about the present, I'm talking about Monday Night Raw! For weeks now I have read many people talk about how this person deserves to become the Intercontinental Champion or how that person deserves to be the Intercontinental Champion. I'm talking about people like Rhyno and Matt Hardy. These two superstars are the two most underrated superstars on the Raw rosters. Rhyno is a power house and Matt can have some memorable matches with Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, and Shelton Benjamin (if done right). Lets just say the WWE finally decides to have Rhyno become the Intercontinental Champion or Matt Hardy become Champion, then Raw has a contender in which they can possibly become World Title contenders in the far-future. These two guys can help bring more entertainment into Raw instead of having them job to every other superstar. Just look at some of the old ECW matches Rhyno was in and you will know why ECW was smart enough to have Rhyno become there World Champion, all of a sudden Rhyno comes over to the WWE, at first they really gave Rhyno a well-deserved push, he became a dominant superstars in the Hardcore Title class. He moved on to become the United States Champion by defeating Tajiri, but thats as far as he has gone. Maybe he doesn't have what it takes to put some more great matches, maybe he doesn't want to get the push because of the more house shows he has to be in, or maybe because the fans just don't give a **** about Rhyno.
If he stayed on Smackdown, Paul Heyman could have reunited ECW and this would have giving Rhyno a well deserved push, and possibly could have gotten a WWE Championship Match against Eddie Guerrero at the Great American Bash instead of John "Bradshaw" Layfield, but no, the WWE want him on Raw where you will rarely see him and its only there to job to people. Now we head to Matt Hardy, Matt Hardy to me is the Chris Jericho of 1999, well not exactly but at least he is in the same class. Matt Hardy has always been forgotten by the fans and the WWE because of his younger brother Jeff Hardy getting all the attention and getting the opportunity. Look, Jeff defeated Triple H to become the Intercontinental Champion and what did Matt Hardy get, absolutely nothing! Matt was an excellent Cruiserweight Champion, he was wrestling in WM19, but then Matt goes to Raw, he starts a feud with Lita and then is forgotten by the WWE writes. All of a sudden they bring back Matt and he's only used for promos, no matches but just promos in his storyline with Lita/Kane. If you look at some of the pay per views where Matt Hardy was wrestling, you will find out why he is such a great wrestler that deserves to become the Intercontinental Champion. He can put up a classic match against Randy Orton or even Shawn Michaels, hey even Chris Jericho. But, in my opinion, the problem they don't get the well deserved push is because the dam fans don't give a **** about any of these superstars. If fans began to care they will realize that the WWE has other talented superstars hiding behind the curtains. Maybe thats why Smackdown is doing so poor, because fans don't give a **** about the other superstars like Paul London, Billy Kidman, and Shannon Moore.
Now let me get to the man who is going to become the Intercontinental Champion (hopefully) at Summerslam, Shelton Benjamin. He's a great wrestler, has talent, athleticism, but he is still wearing his WGTT attire and never has a chance to improve in his mic skills. He can become Raw's most dominant Intercontinental Champion if you just allow this guy to evolve. Shelton Benjamin put up a good match against Triple H, he put up a great match against Randy Orton at Bad Blood, and for about 4 months he has gotten no mic time and wears the same attire for about 2 years now. Before Summerslam comes around the WWE need to change his attire and give him mic time. Shelton Benjamin has all the talent to be the Intercontinental Champion and continue the legacy of this precious title. But all the WWE do is have this guy become a "lucky guy" they make it look like Shelton Benjamin won those matches by luck, which can get annoying. If giving the chance he can put up a classic match against Orton at Summerslam just like the Rock did against Triple H at Summerslam many years ago for the Intercontinental Title.
Now there are three guys on Raw who have won the Intercontinental Title, and probably in the future will become contenders for the World Heavyweight Title. And these three men are Edge, Christian, and of course the current Intercontinental Champion Randy Orton. First let me talk about Edge. Ok, since his return he has gotten alot more bigger, looks older, looks ready but he's not ready. Edge tries to put up some great matches but it hasn't been able to reach the level of becoming the World Heavyweight Contender. It seems to me that he is missing something, he's missing the X-Factor, I don't want it is, but he is not ready to become World Champ, not yet anyways. Just give him a year, put him in matches against superstars he can perform perfectly well and I believe at that point he can be ready to become a World Title contender. But currently, he's more of a Intercontinental Title contender, Edge needs to get this belt back to guarantee a spot as a dominant superstar on Raw. Edge put up a decent match against Kane at Backlash, but after that, its been downhill for Edge. He had a great return on Raw on March but he's gone back to becoming a Tag Team Contender. The WWE almost turned him back into a tag team contender if it wasn't for him spearing Orton last week on Raw. If just given the right opportunity, put him in matches against Shawn Michaels and I can almost promise you that Edge will rise highever than ever before if the WWE just decides to have Edge defeat or lose to HBK. So it seems that Edge will be getting a Intercontinental Title match at Vengeance against Randy Orton, but if Edge can somehow pull up a great match, he doesn't have to win, all he has to do is put up a great match, and if he does and convinces me then I'll say in less than 8 months he'll become the World Heavyweight Champion, guaranteed!
Now we go to the man known as Christian. In the past no one expected him to become a huge star on Raw. He was always in the shadow of Edge. But not anymore, now he doesn't need Edge. Christian is such a talented superstar, he put up a good match against Jericho at WM19, he put up a great match against Rob Van Dam, many months ago in the Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title if you all remember. But now, Christian has reached the point of becoming a Intercontinental title contender. Christian is one of those guys who can put up great matches, in all the matches he has been in, some of his most memorable match, besides the TLC Matches, have come in a Intercontinental Title Match. Raw is doing a good job with him right now, but they should seperate him from Tomko and Trish and just have him be alone. This guy as good mic skills, great in-ring wrestling talent, he's got everything, he's got everything except for the Intercontinental Title which he hasn't held that title for many months now. So hopefully when he returns he will finally get his shot at becoming the champion and hopefully make every WWE fan a believer of Christian!
Now I will talk about one of the most talented rookies, his name is Randy Orton, Raw's Current Intercontinental Champion. Orton has made me a believe ever since his match against The Undertaker back when he was on smackdown, now those matches were nothing special but when I first saw them, I saw a young kid named Randy Orton jumping off the turnbuckle, hitting these dropkicks, and taking this ass kicking like a man. Well since he's move to Raw, and of course thanks to Triple H and Ric Flair, he has become a well known superstar on Raw. He's been in the second elimination Chamber, he has defeated so many legends from Shawn Michaels to Mick Foley to Sgt. Slaughter. Orton is a man who has brought some dignity to this title, well, ever since Backlash when he had his match against Cactus Jack in a Street Fight which just made Orton a Made-Man. Randy Orton is a man who is more than ready to get a World Heavyweight Title Match, but first he needs to drop the Intercontinental Title, because the title has done its job, the title has made Orton a made-man, and now its time for him to drop up the title to the future superstars of the WWE, Shelton Benjamin. If you have Triple H leave Evolution and have Orton become leader, then this could lead to a possible Orton vs HHH match which would help Orton become a World Title contender, even if he loses he can still get the respect from the WWE fans. Like PK has said, I think, Orton will become the World Heavyweight Champion in less than a year, Guaranteed!
Finally we go to the man who is a Legend, his name is Y2J Chris Jericho! The WWE made a mistake by having this guy feud with Tomko and Trish Stratus. Jericho was the first ever Undisputed Champion, he has had some memorable matches, he headlined Wrestlemania 18, he took on Shawn Michaels in WM19, he took on Christian at WM20, and now look at him. What is he doing, he hasn't been the World Heavyweight Champion in months, ever since he dropped the Undisputed Title to Triple H, its been downhill for Chris Jericho. Right now, I'm waiting for the WWE to have Jericho go back to the top and fight for the World Title instead of facing superstars like Randy Orton for the Intercontinental Title. The Intercontinental Title has served its purpose to Chris Jericho back in the early 2000's. But its time for him to wave at the IC Title and say hello to the World Title. Jericho is a World Title contender, if the WWE put Jericho back at the top, then they can allow Rhyno or Matt Hardy to become a Intercontinental Title and that maybe in the future they will one day be known as a World Title contender, this is like the circle of life, once a superstar becomes IC Champion and moves on to the World Title, then he needs to leave the IC Title to the younger superstars who are going to become the future of the WWE, and the three men that are the future, if just given the opportunity are Rhyno, Matt Hardy, and Shelton Benjamin.
Well fokes, thats it, the Intercontinental Title has been on the line for some of the greatest matches of all time, from Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels at WM10 in a ladder match to Randy Orton vs Cactus Jack at Backlash in a Street Fight. Many legendary wrestlers have held this title, many of todays great superstars have held this title, they have left this title and went on to become World Champions, and the two people who left the IC Title and went on to become World Champions are none other than Chris Benoit (the World Heavyweight Champion) and Eddie Guerrero (the WWE Champion). And who knows, when Shelton Benjamin becomes the Intercontinental Champion, you might be looking at the future World Heavyweight Champion.
Well fokes, that was my very first column, it is not as good as I thought it would be, but if I continue I hope I can improve. But for now, this is what I can deliver and hopefully everyone enjoyed it and feedback on what you thought about my column would be nice.
And of course, my catchphrase will begin in 1.........2...........3
