Wednesday (somewhere still) Night Live!
March 25th, 2009
The Venue
Some Town, FL

This week Live comes to you where from wherever it says on the schedule and is brought to you by Darby Vokraltch, a host(ess?) at a local dining establishment and longtime WPW fan. They never told us their gender and frankly we were not even sure that was a real name.

Sal Karver vs. Trent James
Number 1 Contender Match

Well this was something else, I turned up after reading the last few reviews of Live expecting to have wasted my money, but this was quite nice. I still wonder what title they’ll be competing for, I mean Sal and Van are friends but Trent hates Van, both of them hate Gunnar, but really does anyone like him? Then there’s the tag titles which Sal and Van already have. So anyone can guess as to what title will be used in the end. Both men came with chairs, Karver’s having a bump in it while Trent’s looked new, Karver left his chair on the outside but Trent seemed adamant on setting it up in the ring, something Todd Franklin didn’t like and argued about. Eventually Todd threw it out of the ring and Trent yelled at Todd. As the two were arguing, Karver made his presence known splashing Trent with Todd diving away rather pathetically at the last second. Karver followed up with a hasty bulldog and covered getting a 2 count. He backed away telling Trent he was close to ending this early, must have been an attempt to rile up his rival. Karver jumped up trying to leg drop Trent but missed as Trent rolled out of the way, using the moment he had, Trent dived or tackled Karver causing both men to roll around in an all out brawl, luckily it was broken up by Todd before the decision was given. The middle of the match gave a brilliant chain of moves by both men with Karver starting it off by taking Trent down to his knees and tried to follow up with a shining wizard, Trent blocked smartly, getting his arms up to take the impact first before rolling over the now floored Karver into a pin, I thought it was a three count, but the ref said 2 as Karver lifted Trent up in a brilliant counter, keeping his arms around Trent’s waist. He tried a German suplex, but Trent countered, flipping over and landing on his feet with cat like agility. Trent ran up behind Karver within a second or two and went for his own suplex, spinning Karver around first using a belly to belly suplex. The crowd seemed to really be getting into the wrestling, while still booing the hell out of two men who weren’t on great terms. The end came when Trent had decided enough was enough and Todd was out cold on the mat. Trent grabbed the chair and challenged Sal to get his. Sal stared, watching Trent carefully as Trent continued to taunt Sal, telling him to bring Hardcore back, however Sal shrugged and crumpled to the mat, Trent looked on confused as to Sal’s tactics when a bell was heard. Todd seemed to have awoken to see Trent with a chair and Sal on the mat and did what he thought was the right thing. Oh boy Trent was livid, swinging the chair at Todd knocking him out of the ring with the force of the swing, luckily Sal had escaped the ring before Trent noticed. Sal smirked telling Trent he’d been outwitted while Trent tossed the chair at Sal, missing by inches. Boy, this could be the makings of a brutal feud, and Trent was really intense. End of the day, Sal can count himself lucky and gains a title shot, But I totally expect Trent to get payback sooner rather than later.

Awkwardly Placed Segment

Daniel: What a night we have seen so far

Max: And it’s not over yet

Daniel: Well, right now Carlos is in the ring, so let’s take everybody there.

Max: But first let us mention how awkward our presense is here on this edition of Live.

Daniel: Yes it seems odd somebody would remember our dialogue word for word, can the crowd at the shows even hear us anyway?

Carlos: Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year once again. We are counting down to the greatest spectacle in WPW history, Redemption III! And I promise that this year will be better than any other year before it. And so tonight, we will have an official contract signing for the main event. Allow me to introduce your WPW Heavyweight Champion, The Killing Joke!

“Black Sabbath” hits the speakers, and Killing Joke makes his way down to the ring, his WPW title wrapped around his shoulder. He enters the ring, shaking hands with Carlos. Carlos instantly smells a foul stench from his hand, as Killing Joke takes a seat at the table.

Carlos: Always a pleasure to see you, Killing Joke. And introducing his opponent for Redemption: The winner of the 2009 Brawl For It All, Martin Cameron!

“Broken Boy Soldiers” plays, as Martin Cameron makes his way down to the ring. He brushes right past Carlos, climbing to the top turnbuckle as the fans roar and cheer his name. Cameron and Killing Joke keep eye contact with each other the entire time, as Cameron takes his seat at the other side of the table.

Carlos: Gentlemen, thank you both for coming out here to make this official. You both know the rules and conditions for your WPW Title match at Redemption. Killing Joke, I’m going to ask you to look over and sign the paperwork first.

Killing Joke reaches into his pocket, pulling out a pair of reading glasses. He flips through the pages of the contract, shuffling quickly back and forth. He then takes a red sharpie out of his jacket pocket, and starts scratching out items on the contact.

Carlos: What are you doing?

KJ: Just using my power of attorney to make a few changes. See, this clearly needs to go

Killing Joke crosses and writes notes into the contract, while Martin Cameron looks ready to take on Killing Joke right then and there. Killing Joke sets down the red pen, and picks up the pen. He signs his name at the bottom, and then tosses the contract over to Martin Cameron.

KJ: She’s all yours

Martin Cameron looks over the changes to the match, having a look of confusion and amusement. Cameron is about to sign, when he speaks out at Killing Joke.

Cameron: I just want you to know that I don’t care what kinds of tricks you want to pull. However you want to change our match at Redemption, nothing is going to stop me from doing what so many thought was impossible. I will walk away from Redemption as the WPW Champion.

Martin takes the pen, and is about to sign his name, when “Take On Me” hits the speakers. Both Cameron and Killing Joke turn to the ramp, as Stallion appears on the ramp.

Stallion: Hang on, just hang on one moment

Carlos: What the hell are you doing here? This is a contract signing that you have nothing to do with

Stallion: Oh, I’d disagree

The Stallion heads down the ramp, and enters the ring. Martin Cameron is standing, but Killing Joke just glares at the former contender from his seat.

Stallion: You see, the last time myself and the current champion met, I walked away with the win, while he walked away with the title

KJ: Sorry partner, had to be done

Stallion: And ever since the Brawl, I haven’t been able to get the WPW Championship out of my head. Killing Joke has been dodging me, but not anymore. I’m out here tonight to challenge Killing Joke for a rematch at Redemption!

The eyes of Killing Joke bug out a tiny bit at that thought, and he grabs his WPW Title a bit tighter than usual. Martin Cameron comes face to face with Stallion.

Cameron: There’s just one little problem with that, Stallion. You see, I’m the next man in line. You had your chance, now it’s time to step aside

Stallion: I’m sorry Marty, but this has nothing to do with you

Cameron: In case you’ve forgotten, I won the Brawl For It All. I defeated the best in WPW for the right to challenge Killing Joke for his WPW Championship

Stallion: The WPW Championship that should rightfully be mine

Cameron: Well then, why aren’t you holding it?

The Stallion takes a step back, letting the shot sink in. He presses his tongue against his bottom lip, and rubs his temple slightly

Stallion: I have just as much claim to that belt as you do, Brawl or no Brawl

Cameron: Tell you what, how about I give you my first title defense after I win the belt?

Stallion: See, that isn’t going to be good enough for me

Cameron: What is, then?

Stallion: You want to be champion? You want to prove you are the top guy to hold that belt? You beat every superstar in WPW to win that Brawl, but you didn’t beat me

Cameron: So what are you saying?

Stallion: How about this: Next week, it’ll be Stallion vs. Martin Cameron. You win, I’m out of your hair, and I’ll wait in line with everybody else. But if I win, I get a crack at Killing Joke’s WPW Championship, and we make it a triple threat match at Redemption! What do you say?

The crowd pops at the sounds of the triple threat. Stallion sticks out his hand, hoping for a shake. Cameron looks at the outstretched hand of Stallion, then turns away. He picks the pen up off the table, and signs his name to the contract. He hands the contract over to Carlos, keeping his focus on Stallion.

Carlos: There you have it folks: Martin Cameron vs. Killing Joke at Redemption!

The crowd is mixed, not sure how to respond. Martin Cameron takes the contract back from Carlos, and holds it up to Stallion.

Cameron: I have worked too hard, and for too long, to see this chance walk away from me. And while I respect you as a competitor, I’m not about to lose my shot at greatness.

Stallion: That’s alright, I can understand that. I figured this would either go smoothly, or cause some problems. And it seems like you wanted to start a few problems

Just then, Stallion sends a strong kick right into the jaw of Martin Cameron. Cameron drops to the ground, stunned from the hit. Killing Joke makes his way up, but Stallion clotheslines him over the top rope. Carlos is shaken, backing away from Stallion. Stallion picks the contract up from the ground, and flips to the last page. Stallion grabs the pen, and writes his name over Martin Cameron’s.

Stallion: See? Now we both have legal rights to be in this match.

Stallion drops the contact back down on the ground, and exits the ring.

Daniel: Can you believe what we have just witnessed?

Max: Can he do that?

Daniel: Stallion just signed his name over Martin Cameron’s, I guess he’s now legally the number one contender

Max: So it looks like his challenge is on

Daniel: Next week, it’ll be Stallion vs. Martin Cameron. If Stallion wins, he’s included in the title match

Max: Martin Cameron is going to be looking for revenge next week

Stallion poses at the top of the entrance ramp to mixture of cheers and boos. Martin Cameron makes it back to his feet with the help of the ropes. He glares Stallion down, very visibly upset.

Chris Cage vs. Blake Baker
Sell Your Soul Qualifying Match

This one needed a little explanation to me, so here is what I was told…

SYS is a brutal match inside a cage with weapons and stuff. A few select men go in and almost kill each other for a shot for the World Title they can use at any time. It’s called SYS because they feel like they did Sell their soul.

So this is qualifying for that, I can understand wanting to get in but I thought they’d put a few guys on a good run into this match, I’d love to see One vs. Scorch vs. JMC vs. Parker for example kill each other in there, but I digress. This one wasn’t quite as epic as the first match, but still a worthy contest between two men out to prove themselves. Cage seemed to take an early advantage almost mockingly pushing Blake around the ring at points. Blake managed a quick counter by tripping Cage up and applying a quick ankle lock. Cage began to panic and scrambled wildly for the ropes, clinging to them for dear life. Blake let go and backed away at the suggestion of the ref, allowing Chris a little time to recover as he slid out of the ring. Blake slowly followed but Cage managed to grab Blake throwing him into the ring post. The move seemed to really hurt Blake as his cries even managed to reach our ears. Cage pulled him back into the ring but only managed a 2 count. Cage looked up and began throwing a lot of insults at the ref as Blake regained a few senses and tried to roll Cage up with his unhurt arm. It showed as Cage powered out at 2, while a strong arm may have held on for that extra second. Cage looking enraged charged at Blake with a boot to the knee forcing Blake down to one. Cage brought another boot to the arm this time before forcing Blake to his feet. Cage looked to be going for a DDT, pulling on the arm, but Blake reversed looking for the Blake Breaker, but Cage remained close to the ropes, not giving Blake a chance to execute the move properly. May have been luck on Cages half that he was there since he had no chance of seeing Blake. Anyway, Blake went for plan B and spun Cage around who jabbed Blake in the eyes firmly before moving Blake into position for the FutureShock 2.0 and a three count.

Scorch vs. Chris Asmodeus

A match labelled as a filler, and based on the performance of Chris, he can find himself filling more often than not. Don’t get me wrong, he looks like a cool guy, but his performances seem a little shocking from what I was told. Scorch, being the veteran as he was didn’t look like he intended to take this easy. From the first bell, Scorch really took it to Chris, showing the fans what ‘proper; wrestling is executing moves with such effort they actually looked good and entertaining, it confused most of us making us wonder if we should be cheering for him. Towards the end Gunnar came out and looked down, watching Scorch. These two seem to have been on some kind of mutual terms of late but neither have said anything. Scorch won soon after with an Ignitor onto Chris, but Scorch didn’t end it there, opting rather, to send a message ending with a Sixth degree burn. I looked back and Gunnar was gone, I wonder if him and Scorch are planning anything or if its nothing but a tease.

Van Risen vs. Stallion

Van came to the ring, Stallion too. Yeah funny how that worked out, one right after the other. Anyway both guys put on a really good match here. Van seemed to be working extra stiff, implying that guys pull their punches at times, wait this is wrestling…awkward. Anyway he seemed upset at Stallions’ claims of being the top hardcore champion in WPW. Stallion seemed a bit bothered that somebody still might not see him as a top tier player and really wanted to show he did indeed belong in the WPW title match at Redemption. Risen tried to execute a lot of roll ups and flash pins in this match, hoping to catch the quicker man off guard. Though they failed to get him a win they did force Stallion to expend a lot of energy. Midway through the match Martin Cameron came out to yell at Stallion, but this Ultimately distracted Van Risen and Stallion took advantage with a superkick that sent Van Risen over the ropes. Van started to get up shortly after his rather rough tumble but instead of going to the ring he slowly walked over screaming at Cameron. This took too long apparently as the referee called for the bell on the countout. The crowd hated this but picked up when Van took a swing at Cameron. The two brawled as Cameron got the edge, until Sal Karver came out and started to brawl with Cameron as well, this led to Trent James coming out, which then led to a huge pop for Stallion who dove on to the trio with a suicide over the ropes. As he picked himself up to pose for the crowd, Cameron started to get up as well and went to attack but before he could he was laid out, by a title belt shot, curteousy of the WPW Champion, the Killing Joke who then placed what appeared to be a stuffed novelty bee on the fallen Cameron before mouthing to Stallion “you’re next…buzz buzz.” He then laughed as he walked away. It was a pretty chaotic scene by the end of it.

CamOne & JMC vs. TSA & Killing Joke
Redemption III Weird Match

Up next we had this huge six man tag as Cameron was able to stay out to team with James Cassius and The One, who recently discovered they are brothers. Not even half, full on, but somehow the parents only wanted one and shockingly James won a popularity contest with somebody. They took on The Killing Joke and some guys on Team Super Awesome, the Ninja and the chicken I think. JMC started the match for his team as Cameron was tended to by some of the medical staff. Killing Joke stood on the apron taunting for JMC to tag his brother or the “pale looking one”. JMC seemed distracted unable to keep control of El Pollo, mainly due to the constant interference of Frank The American Ninja. He would attack right in front of the ref who would pretend not to notice, he seemed to sniffle a lot and I swear he got a nose bleed during this one. Anyway Cameron finally was able to get back towards the ring and bumped into the One climbing on the apron this actually caused a blind tag and One reluctantly entered the match then picked up when he saw he might be able to show off. He took down Frank, then the legal man and El Pollo. Following a harsh spinning neckbreaker, One looked to get the finish but Cameron asked for the tag he got it, but it turned out in the commotion of it all Killing Joke had become the legal man. Cameron turned around right into a modified Whoopee Cushion or “The As Swipe” as the guy next to me called it, for the three count. No idea how Frank wound up next to me at that point. Neither One nor JMC tried to break up the pin as the two seemed a bit distracted by other things. Fans seemed a bit let down by this match as it seemed they were expecting much bigger things. It did appear that both One and JMC saw a chance to break up the pin but both opted to stay put. Perhaps they thought Cameron would be able to kick out on his own.

Main Event
Gunnar Brian vs. Jamie Parker
Sell Your Soul Qualifying Match

Finally we had our main event of the evening and it did not disappoint, Alica Gonzalez. Jamie Parker appeared to never get it started in this one as Gunnar took him by surprise early hitting him right off the bat with The Gun Slinger. It seemed to completely stun the former Footballer and much of the crowd who never expected Gunnar to pull out such a big move so early in the match. It took about fifteen minutes but Gunnar controlled most of the bout before ultimately getting the pin with the Gundanium. Parker did prove tough though, as he countered many attacks but could not seem to get his offense going. The crowd seemed a bit unsure of how to react to this one though it seemed each men enjoyed their share of chants, some of them positive even. It should be noted that Scorch watched this match from the crowd and Gunnar seemed to look to him after his win. Oh and afterwards Carlos came out and told Gunnar it did not matter that he had won, he would never get into the Sell Your Soul match. Somebody apparently thought that would be important to tell you. Anyway, overall it was a nice show, and I am looking forward to seeing the next steps in the build up to Redemption.

Ah yes... I lose again but this time it made me smile! Thank-you! I think that it was the right thing to do to at this point. Definitely read my rps which is nice to see translated into the match. Very good match. BTW what Karver did I could see him doing, very intelligent opponent I had this week.. I'll get my match someday, I hope he knows Iam going to be there awaiting a shot at him that same day.

Anyway, Blake went for plan B and spun Cage around who jabbed Blake in the eyes firmly before moving Blake into position for the FutureShock 2.0 and a three count.

For some reason that confused the hell out of me, no I am not high or anything, I just woke up. I had to read it three times to understand it. This was a good SYS Qualifying match. Nonetheless the ending was right and was a good ending once I understood what the hell happened.

Scorch and Chris Asmodeus match was certainly was a filler match. Why do you continue to book Chris? Anyways Scorch came out with a decent win and the Gunnar thing intrigues me. I need to read more rps and better with the shows to understand this connection between these two.

Nice little brawl that happened in the Stallion vs. Van Risen match was called a countout! I think that having Martin Cameron, Trent James, Killing Joke and Sal Karver come out was pretty nice to see. A little brawl for these men is needed!

Cameron was stopped by the Whoopee Cushion? Wow what an ending! Frank ended up next to our person in the crowd, I would've shit nuggets but thats me. So I have a feeling something else is in store for these men, chickens, ninjas and such in this match? Anyways the match was good, would've liked to see more like the guy said but thats what happens when you have a cluster of stars.

Gunnar with the win.. Nice Carlos sure hate him which I find funny as hell to be honest! Anyways okay ending for the show, not really Main Event worthy sorry..

Good overall show!

Nice enough show actually, I'd be very happy with this new format. Overall, perhaps we need to load it up with a lot more segments to keep the personality of WPW shining through, but that's the only thing I could think of to criticize the format. Nice job new boss!

Well at least I got 1 move in! A roll up is the best offense I've managed for months! Don't mean to sound like I'm bitching, it's just difficult to read after trying to write a decent RP. I get that my opponents are obviously better RPs, but I would have thought my efforts were at least worth a bit of offense (I don't just mean this week)... Maybe I should just quit while I'm behind.

I really don't want people to misunderstand this as me being pissy about a loss... It really isn't. I just don't know how much I'm enjoying RPing with nothing to work with and then being rewarded by getting squashed by my random opponent that week with no evident long term plans.

That all being said... Nice show, much better in this kinda extended format, especially with TNT usually being so short, it's good to have a secondary show that also seems important.

Whoa whoa. I booked you in this match to get you into something. I expected you to win and get into the SYS. So I resent you considering yourself finder. If anything cage was the fonder in this match but he put the effort in beating you. I'm trying to get you something man. You just have to give me time to gage where you best fit. I am thinking of giving everyone something good for redemption and beyond but it takes time. I thought you had this match, but shit happens. Congradulate chris and move on.

OSC, it was a good battle, I was nervous while waiting for this to be posted.
Can't wait for SYS, Cage is back.

Then there’s the tag titles which Sal and Van already have.
We do?!

I liked this set-up, I kinda like having a segment or two on Live, making it more like a Heat or Velocity than a house show. Every match was entertaining enough despite this not being really a funny live.

Good match to Hendy as well, was fun as always. I feel like I should give Scorchy big props for really portraying the RPs well in the match.

Am I WPW's first double number one contender?

We might as well be the tag champions already. You can be the first double number one contender and I will go ahead and be the first double double champion.

Also: Congrats Mason for earning that win over me. I liked the brawling bit with all them people going at each other.

Nope I did it last year (tag with Cameron and FS contender) Oh and since you thought a match I wrote was one Scorch wrote I'm happy with that. Glad I got everything right (especially after my first ending which would not have been as well recieved)

Definitely the rps were showcased very well in this weeks show especially in our match. Love the idea of the chairs and like I said how you did that fainting thing. I remember seeing people do that in the WWE and I thought it was funny then as I do now.

Also I would like to say this .. Trent James will not rest until either Gunnar Brian or Sal Karver or Van Risen get chairshots to the head via him!!! Word.

That would be an awesome match ... Trent James vs. Gunnar Brian vs. Salvador Karver vs. Van Risen - Chairs Match! WOOT~! I would mark out for that.

Meh, I'm gonna be unpopular here.
I didn't like the format.
The matches were OK as far as they went, but I do miss the commentary which, for me, is the highlight of any show. Live! usually works out well because of the humorous and varied style of presentation but this lacked that.
The segment was ideal for TNT of course, but stuck out like a sore thumb in the middle of Live. Maybe should have been held back for a proper TNT.
I didn't even like the formatting - I never like where text is centred like that, and I think I would have done each match in a different colour.
Some of the writing was a bit confused too -
May have been luck on Cages half that he was there since he had no chance of seeing Blake.

(At least two full stops missing from that little segment)

Sorry to be a killjoy. The occasional TNT done as Live! could work, but not this time.
