Just a quick question. Was the NWA ever an actual wrestling federation, or was it lots of small wrestling companies working under the name NWA?

Well, Jim Crockett Promotions was the face of the NWA for a short time, but outside of, I don't honestly believe there was anyone under the name of the NWA period. Either way, the last letter gives it away - it's the National Wrestling Alliance. Supershows and the like not under one particular territory have definitely happened though.
