This is my first attempt at a column. It may be terrible so I’ll make it a quickie (ha ha…quickie :P)
I figured it out.
I finally figured out why, after years of watching wrestling, I have suddenly become…bored with it. I have thought about this for a long time and gone through all of the possible reasons…uncompelling characters, the brand extension, bad storylines, the internet, Edge (just kidding), no Stone Cold or Rock, etc. But as I watched Monday Night Raw the other night, I had an epif…ephi…epiphany. It happened when Eric Bischoff told Kane that he could have a title shot against Chris Benoit next Monday Night. The thought that came to my head was…”so what?” I honestly didn’t care, and not because of the wrestlers involved. On the contrary, I think Kane is one of the best characters ever conceived (even though lately he’s been misused), and Benoit, well he’s Benoit. I remember watching him since his days in the 4 Horsemen. I’ve never watched wrestling without the Crippler. But I digress. The reason I didn’t care about the Title Match for next week is become I already knew the outcome. I flat out knew that Benoit would not drop the belt on Monday Night Raw. There are simply no surprises on Raw anymore for me, besides the Rock that is. This complaint extends over into the brand extension as well. With it, everything seems too predictable to me.
Well, that’s it. I told you that this would be a quickie. I’d like to know your thoughts on this as well.
