View Full Version : Feedback Have your say- January 09
Ok guys, it's time for another thread asking you what you want to see on WP. The last one got somewhat hijacked by Gladius and didnt get to cover the stuff i wanted to see.
I'm aware that some of you have asked for new skins. I've downloaded a few and will upload them when i get the chance (hopefully before Friday)
Aside from skins, what else can we do to make your hours on WP more enjoyable?
Is there something you've seen on another forum that you'd like to see on WP?
Is there a forum or section that WP needs or one that we have that needs changing?
Remember: NO STAFFING ISSUES TO BE RAISED IN THESE THREADS.

I doubt there there is anything like this, but since there is a "Thanks" button, I think it would be fun if there was an "EPIC FAIL" button.
Well, i could probably re-write the code to do something similar, but what would be the point?

If someone says something stupid, it would be an easy way to let them know.
Or for Mike's RP's.:wink1:
Can't see how that'll help members to post more if we're installing a feature that will allow other members to easily belittle their posts. Think i'll pass on that one.

I asked this a couple of weeks a go to Ape and Jede...But can we change the THANK button to the MARK button? :)
The only problem with that is that people might think marking a post would be to report it or something. :(

Was totally being serious.
I can't personally think of anything to adress at the moment, other than these skins you will be uploading soon. And even that is somewhat trivial.
Not much wrong with WP says I :)
Whats wrong with WP is that there is so little do to with Wrestling on a Wrestling orientated forum. I used to come here and there'd be some really interesting discussions taking place, in the past six months I can count on two fingers how many good discussions there have been to do with wrestling, Shawn Michaels or Chris Jericho and Is Ric Flair really that great. Now everytime I come on here I see seven or eight new threads, four of them will be role plays, one of them will be a teamHamma fist thread (which I'm sorry, it must be some sort of insider joke/internet humour, but I really haven't got a clue what it is about) the remaining three will be in the off topic or sports sections.
What Wrestling threads we do have are mostly pre-raw discussion threads which to me are useless because I don't watch Raw live anyway as it is aired at an obscene hour over here, other Wrestling threads will be taken over by people who contribute little more than to offer mildly funny one-liners.
Sorry, if that ain't the kind of feedback you wanted, but I've thought this for a while now, and this thread seemed the perfect place to post it.

JDK does have a point because the overall wrestling discussion has died down for awhile. Again I am talking on average during last year. We have had some periods of good discussion and some periods of little to none. We all know the overall interest in the wrestling product does play a part and that has died down some as not everyone who posted in the past is posting as much or at all.
We have to keep in mind that WP is primarily a wrestling forum and that is what will attract new posters. From a marketing aspect, inactivity tends to turn people off from visiting a forum.
Basically there is no real set solution. forum activity will have its ups and downs. I will say for the WWE section there should be a weekly Raw and also Smackdown thread. Just because smackdown has spoilers does not mean it cannot be discussed. We have seen some threads recently, keep it up. We don't need to sticky those threads, just make sure they are there (of course I will help with this from time to time as I know the mods will as well). JDK is right in that copying and pasting a pre raw discussion is not always need. It seems I see more discusion before Raw starts than after.
As for the other forums, not much else to say. I don't know how anyone else feels about this but I was thinking we may have to change the name of the hollywood forum. Hollywood makes me think of movies while I see that forum for all forms of entertainment (music, TV, movies, etc) except games which has their own board.
I see there are more games in the arcade, good job. If you find more put them in there.
I noticed there is no mod for current events last time I checked (no I am not volunteering) but I have to try to make sure from time to time that board lives up to its name. If someone new looks at the thread and the last post was a month or 2 ago, that is not really current.
As long as the site runs smoothly that is what really counts.

Addressing the "Thanks" thing, I notice that it's become a widespread thing on the forums to note your approval of a post for being funny or intelligent or a good idea, more so than the norm. The original use of said button, as I recall, was to be used in WPW and not for these other things. I have no problem with it as stands obviously, since I love letting other posters know I enjoyed their post without having to quote them and adding "You are awesome." thought that's always fun too.
Going with Jesse's idea of an "Epic Fail" button which I agree may be extreme and used to berate people, perhaps the karma system in place on other forums will do the trick instead. What it does essentially is add a plus or minus by each user and you're free to click either one to add or detract from their karma, so after a while they'd have a +/- count next to their name, like say Snowy may have +10/-2 while a returning Gladius would end up with a +0/-1000000. Of course the thanks system works fine too, and perhaps more importantly shows who left the feedback, but it's just a thought I suppose. I'm thinking out loud, so to speak.
Site improvement has never been a strong trait of mine but I really honestly think the whole thing just starts with commitment. A lot of people don't frequently contribute to starting new threads or adding to current discussions. We're lucky as is to have a fucking fantastic eFed that has attracted a decent amount of members recently, but not having a lot of actual wrestling discussion hurts as well. I think it's something we need to ask of all our members who follow it to contribute and create discussion as best they can, and for people like me who don't follow much to contribute in the other sections to balance out the site. Perhaps this feedback is in the wrong place given this discussion has of course been had many times, but we never seem to make a lot of progress so I just thought I'd bring it up again.

Maybe it's just me, but I tried to thank a post about 5 minutes ago and when I clicked it the button dissapeared as if it had worked but it didn't actually thank the post.
Wassupwitdat!?
Interesting. It's most likely a compatability error with the new version of vB. I'll look into it, and then i will probably disable it in all forums outside WPW.

If that's the case, have you considered the karma or reputation systems for the forum? Like I mentioned above, I still like the idea of praising posts outside of RPs.

Same.
I've always really enjoyed the thanking system, even outside of RPs. If I were to be honest, I'd rather it wasn't disabled for the regular forums.

Agree. I don't particularly want to post an 'lol' type response to a good post, but a 'thanks' makes the point.

Ditto.
Keep the thank you button or some equivalent of it. I think it has work well on the board so far and can serve as a general moral booster at times.

Yes, yes i have. The karma system is much better suited to the forums overall than the thanks button as it can be used for both positive and negative thoughtson a post. I could even reinstate the default vB reputation system which does something similar.

I personally miss the WP points and shop system, I loved changing my colors and stealing points and stuff. Also, the arcade is lacking yet again, NO CURVEBALL has ruined my meaningless life.

I'd miss the Thank button.
When I found out I coudln't thank Ryan's "I think I've held the ECW twice" post, I damn near cried.

The store was removed from vB.org due to serious security breaches and all forums were advised to remove it. Unfortunately, nobody has since created anything similar and released it. I'd love to have it back myself, but it just isn't possible.
The arcade can have a few tweaks and have a few games added, no reason why that can't be done.

I personally don't like the status bars that are under the username. For example, i'll use Duff's, Duff is listening to christmas songs. I prefer the old user bit, where you have the username then the custom title and then have avatar, obviously for a staff member you would have the title of his job role under the custom title. I don't know i might just be the only person who doesn't like it. Just a mere suggestion from me.

I have been slowly adding games from the bottom up. Sorry, Curveball is near the top. It will be up though soon.

It just makes it look tacky and bogged up with unneeded writing if you know what i mean.

I've always been a bit premature.

I must admit i'm quite surprised about how much that area has improved in the last couple of weeks. There are some totally amazing threads going at the moment, and i think there are about 8 seriously active ones where the discussion is not only there, but is really quite decent with some great debates going on. Good work and thanks to everyone that's been posting their little hearts out in WWE. If we can keep that going, then we'll be on our way to serious improvement.

Here's an idea. Would it be possible to have the little 'Top poster' box changed from 'most posts of all time' (which seems out of date or something) to 'top poster last month/week' which'll maybe encourage some of the newbies to contribute more if they have a chance of appearing there? Yeah, it might mean some spamming but there are rules to deal with that.
I tried to do that befotre, but fucked it up and broke it. I'll have another go and see if i can figure something out.
Well, that was relatively easy. Does that seem better to everyone?

Hey! Ask and it shall be given! Gets a thumbs up from me. Now I'd like a pepperoni and anchovies 12" thin crust delivered by a topless chick on a Harley Davidson and if she's not here in half an hour, I'm not paying.
Ok guys, new skins are going up as i type this. As per the last time, can you let me know any instances of any missing buttons. I'll need to know the following:
What skin it is
Which button is missing
What the url of the image points to (can be found by right click>properties>location)
HBK619

Blue Streak Fluid is missing... Just about every single button
I take that back: All the new skins are missing almost all along the user panel
Well, that doesnt make much sense.

I really do like that idea Ken had.
I think it's a better way of working things. :)
Also, Clean Blue Fluid is fine for me except the Panic and Thanks buttons, assumingly because they skin didn't come with them. However, most of the links at the top of the page are missing... Perhaps that's what HBK means? All that is there is "User CP" and "Register"...Which is somewhat pointless considering I'm already registered.
