Sudden Impact v The Genuine Articles
Ok, so this match was the first match of the night. Two established stars facing off against two rookies so I was told. On first glances I thought that the Genuine Articles were the established stars, although all four men looked like this was their first match, though I suppose that’s why they were opening the show this week. Seems the fans like to boo a Mr Cage, although I don’t know why, his words seem like really cheap heat, a four year old girl could do the same and get boo’ed. Mr Adams, well I just don’t like him, I guess some people don’t either. I was assured the Genuine Articles were the good guys and that both of them beat the champion in a handicap match. I suppose that’s true since they all looked poor. The ending came early when Mr Adams was dropkicked from the rink and his head hit the guardrail before the G. A. did a somewhat boring dropkick into a schoolboy roll up combination. This was incredibly poor to be honest, hopefully the rest of the show will be better.
At this point we had a little filler, most likely to make up for the early match. Amy White and Mina Henderson came out promoting some WPW stars new t shirts, including JMC, Killing Joke and Dan Murph. They fired them all into the crowd, some kid next to me ended up with a Todd Franklin t-shirt and marked out. Most of us guys were marking out for Amy and Mina, and for HLA but alas nothing happened.
Lance Burkehart v Beno
Another quiet match, from what I was told, Beno being spotty at best with his performances, and Lance being a relative new comer. Beno wanted to talk smack but Lance never gave him a chance, claiming ‘hardcore now‘. A few nerds in the crowd, must have been internet marks hearing rumours began chanting ‘Hardcore Ass pirate’ at Lance, but Lance looks like the guy who would knock them out. The matched was a little disappointing, highlighted by Lances lack of ring ability, hell the guy no sold a power bomb early on which annoyed the crowd. Anyways, the match drowned out with chants, which had been the best part of the match, ended after Beno came out with a thumb to the eye making Lance turn away. Beno followed up with a modified take down and locked in a single legged Boston crab. Lance made it to the ropes causing Beno to let go. Beno went to stalk Lance waiting for him to get up only to nail the ‘Hit N Run’ for the win.
Blade LaVigne v The One
This was interesting. I had no idea there was recently some backstage heat between these two guys. Seems like Blade was caught recently red handed by One doing something unprofessional, and this was the first time these two have met in the ring since them. This was billed as a real David vs. Goliath match and I could see why. One’s accomplishment list was bigger than Blade in general. Call me crazy but it looked like One was actually teaching Blade a lesson, which was a cause for concern. Medics were actually on stand by halfway through when One tossed Blade against a table. Luckily medics were not needed this week as the fighting was taken back into the ring. One was still professional enough to do his job. Towards the end, One was surprisingly tossed from the ring, but Blade was a little slow getting out as One doubled him over. He went for the DDT but Blade managed to carry One over to the floor. Blade slid both men into the ring and Blade went for a power bomb. One reversed with a thumb to the eye and went for another DDT in a counter. Once again Blade countered and tried to take One over his head but One slid over neatly, looked really impressive. He then dropkicked Blade into the ropes. One we got to the end of the match, One missed a spear and ended up face first into the corner. I am not sure but that looked horrible. Blade rolled One up and grabbed the rope above the ref and managed to cheat is way to victory. Fans were not happy and neither was One. Words seemed to be exchanged and a little shove which seemed more personal than anything. Security broke the two up. Honestly I doubt the bookers will let them into the same ring after that.
The Stallion v Blake Baker
Another fun segment here, nice change apparently from Live showing just wrestling. This time it was Blake. He seemed a little quiet and reserved, but who knows. Seems he was wanting his sister Brooke to join him at ringside. I asked the guy next to me about it and he explained about Brooke. It would explain why the male population was behind this idea.
This was another match that surprised me, but in a good way. Blake still a newcomer, but with connections to the wrestling world facing off against the number one contender to the WPW world title. Seemed like a mismatch, but came out to be quiet even in the early parts. Both men seemed to have done their homework and managing to counter a fair bit. The first break through came when Stallion showing his experience by ducking a top rope cross body attempt by Blake. Stallion them took control of the match, picking his shots carefully. Nailing a spinning heel kick scored a 2 count for Stallion half way through the match and at that point Brooke came running out. I thought she was going to prove she was a bad girl, but instead of interfering she began to cheer on Blake urging him to get up as Stallion continued to put the hurt on Blake. Towards the end of the match, Stallion went for ‘The Showdown’ but Brooke screamed move to a groggy Blake. Blake managed to move as Stallion actually crashed to the mat. Blake took advantage locking in an ankle lock, but Stallion had the ring presence to scramble to the ropes. As Stallion got up, Blake spun him around and nailed the Blake breaker for the three count.
Nice chance here to grab a few snacks as they checked the ring prior to the Live Main Event.
Hot Icecream Sandwich Making Match:
Frank 'The American Ninja' v Van Risen
Seriously, words can not express the awesomeness of this match. No really, it was so fucking awesome that I can not and will not be writing it. The winner was Van Risen after these two put on an epic PPV worthy match which involved a dance off, a Blade look alike competition, a box, a guy called Sabin, a dragon and about 40 masks. Seriously, too awesome for words to describe.
No seriously, if I were to write this you'd all explode with marky marking ness.
Winner: Van Risen after an insane leg drop through a 6 table pyramid of doom involving a flaming set, a set with tacs on, and finally a layer of coke on the top. (Don't believe me, well only I know for sure)
