UPCOMING PAY-PER-VIEW
In the year 2004, the historic King of the Ring pay-per-view returns! WWE RAW and SmackDown! presents the King of the Ring pay-per-view on Sunday, June 20th from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. Tickets for the King of the Ring go on sale, June 7th, 2004.
The last King of the Ring pay-per-view was in June of 2002. It was there the ‘Next Big Thing’ Brock Lesnar defeated Rob Van Dam in the finals to become the 2002 King of the Ring.
This year, WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon has announced that the King of the Ring tournament winner will receive a shot at their respective brand’s World title at the second-biggest event of the year, SummerSlam!

Mr. McMahon also announced the main-event of the King of the Ring will be the biggest in its history. On June 20th, ‘The Game’ Triple H will meet professional wrestling great and perhaps the greatest technical wrestler of all time, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart!
In a bout for the World Heavyweight Championship, the Peeps Champion Christian will challenge the reigning champion, Booker T. Booker T and Christian, who first came across each other backstage at WrestleMania XX, are sworn enemies. Booker T has a reputation for being a fighting, determined superstar. Christian, on the other hand, is known for being a male chauvinistic, ambitious, ruthless young man. Unfortunately for Booker T, the Peeps Champion Christian is also the protégé of one of the most hated men in WWE history, Roddy Piper. At the King of the Ring, two men who loathe each other will battle for the World Heavyweight Championship and the wild card is one of the most ruthless, detested men in all of professional wrestling history.
In a match for the richest prize on SmackDown, the U.S. Champion Eddie Guerrero will meet the current titleholder Chris Benoit for the WWE Championship - but unlike the Raw championship match, these two men are best friends. Benoit and Guerrero are also two phenomenal athletes and it’s expected that this bout will be one of the greatest in recent memory. But that isn’t all. The ‘Olympic Hero’ Kurt Angle has been appointed the Special Guest Referee in the title match, and he hates the champion Chris Benoit and has come to hate challenger Guerrero as well. How will this volatile and critical situation come to an end?
As far as the King of the Ring tournament is concerned, two superstars from SmackDown! have already promised victory – John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield and the Doctor and Master of Thuganomics, John Cena. Both of these men have waged an on going verbal and physical battle against each other. John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield, whose motto is ‘Work Harder, Work Smarter’ has become the most hated man on the SmackDown! Brand. One of J.B.L.’s many purposes in his career is spread the story of his success and good fortunate. John Cena on the other hand, dresses how he wants; talks how he wants; walks how he wants, and simply does what he wants. J.B.L. and John Cena are like water and oil. But this Sunday, they have destined to meet. Layfield has promised that ‘in the interest of the United States of America’, he will defeat John Cena, making sure that someone who deserves to win the King of the Ring is victorious – himself.
Vincent Kennedy McMahon must climb one mountain, after just climbing another. At WrestleMania XX, Mr. McMahon was returned to power after being deposed by former WCW, and now McMahon-appointed WWE President, Eric Bischoff. McMahon has now compromised himself, through his words and actions, and must face the self-proclaimed King of the Bling-Bling, one of the most decorated superstars in WWE history, and both first-ever Undisputed WWE Champion and Raw World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho. Both McMahon and Jericho’s jobs are on the line, but it’s apparent to even a fool that after losing a coveted, protected job as Chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment, McMahon would be living on a prayer. For that reason, Mr. McMahon has bought some insurance in Evolution members Randy Orton and Batista. Chris Jericho has spit and succeeded in the face of opposition and stacked decks many times before, but can he do it this time – perhaps the most critical of all?
A situation between two SmackDown! superstars, Bill Goldberg and Rhyno has spun out of control. Although neither one of these men are on the King of the Ring card, they are expected to be there and who knows what will happen. Goldberg is looking for who put out a FBI-contracted hit on him. Everyone believes that Rhyno is the man. But when one question is answered, another one forms - does Rhyno have an accomplice?
