View Full Version : The Widow's Peak: Bad, Blood and Beyond!!

I assume I need to introduction, so I'm going right to the chase. Bad Blood was just that, bad, there were only truly three things that saved this PPV from being a total disaster: Hell in a Cell, Eugene and Benoit. What a combination huh? What we also saw was, Randy Orton retaining his Intercontinental title from Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho beat the "Problem Solver", La Resistance retained their titles from Benoit and Edge and Trish Stratus became the only 5 time WWE Women's champion. So now, in the improved and newly titled, The Widow's Peak, here's a look at Bad Blood:

Bad Blood Hits:

Randy Orton vs. Shelton Benjamin:

The feud between Randy and Shelton hit an all time high when Shelton beat the Intercontinental champion to get his match at Bad Blood. However, last week on Raw, Shelton was the victim of a 3-on-1 assault by Orton, Batista and Ric Flair. I had high hopes going into this match and I wasn't disappointed, except for the fact that Shelton didn't walk out of Bad Blood the new Intercontinental Champion! The two put on a good match and while I didn't think it was as good as their last encounters, it was enough. Orton should thank his lucky stars that someone in management likes him, but as the current longest running IC champ's encounters continue with Shelton Benjamin, he will be upset!

Eugene vs. Coach:

I had gotten onto the Eugene bandwagon when his encounter with the Rock started. I had heard enough about Nick Dinsmore to know that only he could pull off a gimmick like this; he always goes out and gives 110% when sometimes the people who should don't. The crowd was really into Eugene this night and props have to be given to Coach, who did an even better job in this match than his match against Tajiri at Backlash. This storyline has given both men ample time to get the crowds riled up, Eugene for good and Coach for bad; the feud here shouldn't end at Bad Blood but continue until Summerslam. It's a wonder that Coach gets anywhere in this world, if it hadn't been for Eugene's lovable approach to everyone.

Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels:

I had predicted Shawn, but after hearing of Triple H putting his movie on hold and HBK leaving to be with his wife, my tone changed. I'm still no Triple H fan or a fan of this ongoing feud, but the right man won this match last night. I hope this puts this feud to rest for awhile, at least wait until next year before they start to do any kind of a program with these two again. As always, the Hell in a Cell is the most brutal match a wrestler can find themselves put into and Trips and HBK didn't disappoint. I don't know what it was that made this match great to me, since Triple H hasn't been himself since 2002, but maybe it was the fact that this Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels feud was ending for awhile and not dominating the airwaves like it had been the past few weeks. On any case, both men put their careers and bodies on the line once again to an unforgiving steel cage.

Bad Blood Misses:

La Resistance vs. Benoit/Edge:

There was nothing memorable in this match, but it was hell of a lot better than say, Benoit vs. Kane? The DQ finish, involving Kane has been overdone in so many matches, that it took away from it; La Resistance retain. There wasn't much time given to this match and that plus the crappy ending did this match in; I think the new tag champs, while their gimmick is lacking, the wrestlers who make up La Resistance deserved more than that. I was hoping for an Edge heel turn which would benefit him greatly, since he hasn't connected with the fans like hoped.

Victoria vs. Gail vs. Lita vs. Trish:

I don't know what's worse, the Cruiserweight title or the womens' and I'll go with the women's after seeing this match. I ususally have high praises for the division(you go my girls!), but not after this night. A woman who was built up as a real threat doesn't win the title, but a woman who hasn't seen the title in over a year or even thought about it until now wins. Hell or something has frozen over for Trish Stratus to be women's champion; they are building her up to Fabulous Moolah, but it will never happen. The match wasn't spectacular by any means, but Tyson Tomko getting involved killed any momentum any of the women had. La Resistance vs. Edge and Benoit should have had more time than this mess of a match, which isn't saying much for a tag team with less of a gimmick than the women.

Chris Jericho vs. Tyson Tomko:

There were two good things about this match: Jericho won and Trish was knocked from the apron(that's the way to get a woman out of your way!). Chris Jericho has taken two steps backwards and this isn't a good thing considering that he was getting back on track and on a roll. With Christian out with an injury, it's up to Trish(who sucks just in general) and Tomko(who is as green as Little Johnny was!) to carry the feud on. The Problem Solver is solving some sort of problem, but the problem isn't Chris Jericho, it should be the fact that Trish still has feelings for Y2J. The match was short, but given more time than I thought it would or should; once Christian comes back, I think the end of this feud will end at Summerslam if not sooner.

Chris Benoit vs. Kane:

You know something? Not even Chris Benoit could save this match and Kane did nothing to help the situation. With Kane no longer the big scary monster he has been(blame Lita's bad acting or Kane himself, which ever), it didn't have that underdog feeling. To many, even though he is the World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit went in there as the underdog, but Benoit made Kane his bitch, if only for a little while. The match, like many of them, were unforgettable and not memorable in anyway, but the size match up was probably the most memorable moment.

This PPV, while a bit better than the disatrous, Judgement Day, went smoothly in most parts. Orton slipped up and a few other did to, but the WWE didn't make a big fuss of it. It was good to see Eugene having so much fun and the crowd behind him every step of the way. I gave the PPV a 6/10 and my predictions were 5 wins and 2 loses(I know I should have picked Trish!! She was my first pick ,but I changed it!! The WWE wouldn't do something stupid, would they?). Well, that's Rachel's two cents and feedback, whether you hated it or liked it, are greatly appreciated. You didn't agree with me on a statement or a whole column? You want to tell me that you hate or or love me? Do so at hardyfan_2@hotmail.com or post here.

Benoit VS Kane a miss? Did we watch the same match?

I agree. The column was fair but you seem a tad bit too critical. The tag match better than Benoit/Kane? Yeah sure. Benoit/Kane was nearly a four star matchup with the only thing stopping it from being that were parts in the middle where Kane was on the offense. The match told a great story with things picking up at the end especially. This match along with the tag match (while I hated the non finish) were designed to put Benoit over as the real deal. I don't think you should let the lack of buildup for the match and Kane's lack of a strong push impact your view on the actual match.

You're right Unknown, I'm a tad critical. I guess I've come to expect too much from the WWE, but I can't help it, just the way I am.
I've never been a huge fan of Kane's, so my criticalness(if there is such a word) comes from that. The match wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as I thought it could have been; I guess I should have been less critical, but that's how I look at things.
I appreciate your thoughts and opinions on my writing, unlike some people(not talking about Qwaar!).

Yeah I understand coming to expect too much from them as I always do. I've just become more of an objective fan because of the net. I praise them when they deserve it and I get on them when they don't. I liked the match because the story was played out to perfection throughout. I find your writing interesting atleast you don't just blast the company even when they do something good like the Shua. No offense but if he's going to say that nothing inspires him enough to write a column then why was he given the job of columnist? A good columnist should be able to find something to write about.

I always find something to write about, that's not a problem for me. ;)
