WWE SMACKDOWN
FROM TORONTO, CANADA

A video package rolls and we see the faces of the Smackdown superstars. A voice over is heard and we recognize the voice to be Vince McMahon. He says that tonight a new GM will lead Smackdown and will make thursday nights for UPN "must see tv". Vince says that Smackdown is going to change and that change starts tonight. Video ends and the Smackdown theme music hits. Pyro goes off and the camera pans out to show the crowd. Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to Smackdown coming to you from Toronto, Canada. Tazz says that tonight is a new beginning for Smackdown, and Cole seconds those thoughts. Cole then tells us that we will have John Cena vs. Hardcore Holly for the US title and that Eddie Guererro will defend his title against JBL in a Judgment Day re-match. Tazz says that tonights show is loaded, and on cue "No chance" hits and Vince walks out to a mixed reaction. There are some "You screwed Bret" chants, but Vince makes his way to the ring, steps in and calls for a mic.

Vince says that he is not going to waste any time. He came here to introduce the new Smackdown GM. So, without any further adu, Vince says to stand up and give the new Smackdown GM a big ovation. Ladies and gentlemen.......I give you......Teddy Long.

Long comes out to a mixed reaction as well. He is dressed up looking sharp and has a big smile on his face. He gets into the ring and shakes Vince's hand. Vince says that choosing Long as the GM was really a no brainer. He feel that Long has been overlooked for too long (no pun intended). Vince says that Teddy will be the driving force behind Smackdown's resurgence into rating's Heaven. And with that, Vince hands the mic to Teddy and shakes his hand one more time before exiting the ring and heading towards the back.

Long says that the time has finally come for people to recognize that Teddy Long is large and in charge. He says that Smackdown has gained a visionary. A man who knows how to get results. Teddy says that tonight he has signed and will deliver the WWE Championship re-match from Judgment Day. Eddie Guererro will defend against JBL in a no DQ match. He says that if JBL wants to truly be the champ, then he will seize this opportunity. He says that John Cena will face Hardcore Holly with the US title on the line. He says that The Dudley Boyz will meet the FBI in a match to determine the number one contender's for the WWE Tag Team titles. And in the main event for the evening, Booker T will face the Undertaker with the number one contender's spot on the line and a match against the WWE Champion at The Great American Bash. Teddy smiles and says that for his first show, he has done one heck of a job in giving the fans the quality matches we deserve. Teddy says that he will make Samckdown better than Raw. Teddy then says that he wants to address the cruiserweight division. Teddy loves the cruiser's and feels that past GM's overlooked them. Well Teddy Long knows the fans like the cruiser's as well, so he signed two cruiserweights to come to Smackdown and compete in the division. Tonight, one of those men will make his debut. So Teddy introduce's Grandmaster Sexay. Sexay comes out to a nice pop doing his normal dancing routine. Sexay makes his way to the ring and shakes Teddy's hand. Teddy says that Sexay was being misused on Raw. So, Teddy made a call to Eric Bischoff and asked about buying Sexay's contract form Raw. Eric had no problem with it and so here he is. On Smackdown where he belongs. Teddy says that he wanted Sexay to come out because Sexay is going to be in the very first Smackdown tv match under the Long administrtion. Teddy says that Sexay will be facing Jamie Knoble. Sexay likes this as Knoble makes his way out.

Grandmaster Sexay vs. Jamie Knoble

Both start the match trying to feel one another out. Finally, Knoble gets the upper hand with a knee to the gut of Sexay. Knoble begins to focus on Sexay's right leg by beating on it with various moves. After a few moments of abuse, Sexay kicks Knoble off of him and tries to mount a comeback. But Knoble takes Sexay's legs out from under him and gains the advantage. Knoble throws Sexay to the outside, but follows his prey and slams Sexay's right knee into the steel steps. The ref warns Knoble to get into the ring but Knoble acts like he is not listening and continues his assault. He wraps Sexay's legs around the ringpost and puts on the figure four. Sexay is screaming in pain as we hear Knoble yell "welcome to Smackdown!". The ref finally gets Knoble to break the hhold and warns him again. This time KNoble gets in the refs face and starts jawing with him. This gives Sexay some time to rest and recouperate. Knoble finally finishes arguing with the ref and goes to punish Sexay some more, but Sexay dives and takes Knoble's legs out from under him. Knoble goes down awkward and Sexay see this. He stands on one leg and tries to shake off the pain in his right leg. He looks to the crowd and decides turn about is fair play, and he slaps the figure four on Knoble from the ringpost. The crowd goes nuts as Knoble screams in pain. The ref calls for Sexay to let go of the hold, but Sexay won't listen. Finally, the ref has had enough and calls for the bell. Even so, Sexay still has the hold on Knoble. A few refs and other backstage personnel come out and get Sexay to release the hold. EMT's come down to check on both men. Sexay is okay and walks up the ramp to a nice response. Knoble looks to be seriously injured.

We go backstage as we see Booker T walking to Teddy Long's office. He barges in on Teddy who is talking with Dawn Marie. Booker tells Dawn to leave, but Teddy says that she is staying because Miss Dawn Marie is Teddy's adminsitrative assistant. Booker says whatever. He just wants to know why he is facing the Undertaker tonight. Booker seems outraged. Teddy asks if Booker knows that his match with Undertaker is for the number one contender's spot for the WWE title. Booker smiles and says he didn't, but since it is then he will face Undertaker tonight. Teddy says Booker can beat Taker and tonight he will show the world that. Booker agrees and leaves.

Nunzio says one minute and a few wrestlers jump in putting there wagers down.

Michael Cole and Tazz update us on the status of Jamie Knoble and say that it looks like Knoble suffered a serious knee injury. They say he is at the hospital being looked at and as soon as they find out something, they will let us know.

Camera picks up Sexay walking in the back as he runs into Scotty. The two former tag team duo hug and Sexay says that he is glad to be on Smackdown with his bud. Scotty says the feeling is mutual but wants to know why Sexay did what he did to Knoble. Sexay says he snapped and that he was mad because he felt Knoble was trying to take him out. He says that he will go and see Knoble and let him know that he is sorry. Scotty says that is the right thing to do. Sexay leaves and tells Scoty that they need to hook up after the show.

I think its only right I be the first to review the show:

Hits:

1) Teddy Long as GM. You told me this was coming and having Long as GM is a great idea. I like how most of the night centered around him.

2) Dupree and Heyman as a team. I wouldnt have thought of this myself and I have to say its a great idea. Having Heyman with Dupree gives Rene a chance to change his character. Very good idea.

3) Dudleys 3D's all round. Bought time we saw the Dudley Boyz 3D a woman again. Thats what got them over as *******s and thats what they should always push for. No prisioners policy.

4) The general set up for next weeks show. Tag title match, US title match and US number one contender match plus Angle making a speech. Well laid out and thought out. Gets people interested.

5) Booker T as the number one contender. Where he belongs.

Misses:

1) Quite a bit of the show seemed flat. There was some good segments but then other segments just seemed dead. The Scotty/GrandMaster reunion for instance.

2) FBI doing the bets. I never liked this to begin with on the real Smackdown! and so I dont think my feelings on it are going to change. Its just seemed like a way to get jobbers, that shouldnt be jobbers on the TV i.e. London, Funaki etc

3) I dont really know if there is a need for Dawn to be Teddys PA. May take a while for me to get into that.

Overall: 6.5/10
Solid show all round.

Thanks for the feedback PK.

1. FBI- I'm trying to get them over as a tag team, which is where I think they should be on the real Smackdown. I went back to the "bet thing" only because that is how most people seemed to care about them. Stamboli and Nunzio are going to be used alot on our Smackdown season.

2. The Grandmaster/Scotty segment will lead to something. That is all I can say. This was the one segment that was tough for me to write, but I have plans for Sexay so I felt it needed to be in there.

3. Dawn will have a bigger role on the show, more than her PA role. I like Dawn and I want to use her. This is one of those things that people will either love or hate. But, you never know until you try.

4. Heyman is someone who needs to be utilized on Smackdown. The guy is great at being a heel manager, and I felt Dupree could use someone like Paul to help establish himself.

5. The Dudley's 3D fest was one of my first ideas. I long for the days when the Dudley's would drive women through tables. That was when they were a great heel tag team.

Overall, the show is a start so I know it will take time for it to get better. I only have four weeks to build up to the GAB, so I'm trying my best to make that event matter. Over time, I feel the show will improve. Anyways, thanks for the comments.

What I thought was great about this show was how I could see all these little things starting. Alot of the things you did were very sutle but you can see them leading to something big.

One More Hit:

Bradshaw Clotheslining Taker. This is what the WWE should have done with JBL first day instead of shoving him down our throats.

Agreed. JBL needed time to develop into a heel that the fans could hate. I really do like the character of JBL. It sort of reminds me of Ted Debiase's Million Dollar Man character. I really think he and Taker can have a good feud.
